How did you folks choose your names? And how did you get people used to the idea of calling you something different?
Honestly I've never really responded to my birth name, even before I started questioning my gender. I'm at the point where I want to have a neutral name for those spaces that I'm out in, not just my initial, even though in large parts of my life I'm totally in the closet.
I know gender euphoria is a good indicator of having found the right name, but how do you feel that if people don't call you by that name? And is it crazy and confusing to try out a few names before deciding?
A?

For me, I have always loved the name Jennifer. When my daughter was born that was my top choice, but got shot down. We picked a just as beautiful name but still I have always wanted a Jennifer in my family. That plus I have always known Jennifer's who are sultry, witty, smart and just plain hot So there you have it. It just feels so natural to me that I don't even say to myself "Oh that's right YOU are Jenn"

I needed a forum name a long time ago and saw my prescription bottle sitting there... I'm so used to it, that hearing Ativan the med throws me, I'm Ativan... Yah, I still kinda laugh a little sometimes when I see it, but it is a part of my online person. It's totally natural for me now, I think it was within a year of starting it. I haven't run across anyone else using it for a name, so it remains as it was all this time. I've had it and have been using it for so long that I get emails for political survey's and such. I've lost track of the accounts that I have opened with it, online stores and such. It does get confusing at times if I have to use a card to buy online, some places I have to exit and log in with that name. Although I can't access two FB accounts because they want ID, and I have gone around with them on this, they accept an artist name, an authors name, etc., and I turned my account into a page instead, and then they did the same ID thing, so it isn't worth the hassle to go around with them, so I don't use it, and I can't even get into them to close them out, FB sucks with some of it's lack of ability to know what the other hand is doing. And on top of it, the original account is a group account that I just renamed and used for a personal account, they don't even realize it is a group account, I get emails at times and they use the group name, other times Ativan, I still get updates that I can't do anything with, they send all this crap and still won't let me into my account, but I seriously don't miss the time drain that FB is.

Yeah,Facebook is the worst. It's actually part of this, me thinking so much about a name because I am making a second Facebook account for the people I am out to. Also so I have social media to connect with the other sailing participants this summer without letting them know my birth name, gender assigned at birth, etc. because I don't want to ruin the feeling I have of infinite possibility when I think of that trip and being surrounded by people who don't know all these things about my past. Anyway, point is Facebook won't let me use just A. I actually just managed to change my name on the second account to Loading, though, which makes me giggle.

I chose Veronica because it was one of the few common girl's names I liked that I had not met anyone with. I wasn't wanting the same name as of one of my ex-girlfriends.
It seems a bit too feminine though to use with my current appearance. I've been just going with my birth initials lately. It took awhile to get used to using them.
I don't think it's that unusual to try other names. I tried a few different unisex names before going with my birth initials. An easy way to see how you feel about other people to calling you a different name is to order something at Starbucks or some other coffee shop or restaurant that calls out your name when your order is ready.
I'm a little wary of creating a second FB account. I'm not out to the people in my past I have as friends there, and FB is very good at making connections. I've read too many horror stories of people getting suggested to their friends as people they might know.

That Starbucks idea is genius! I am definitely going to try that.
Also, if you haven't been using Veronica in "real" life, would you prefer to go by something else here or should we stick with Veronica?
I had those same concerns about Facebook, so I used a fake last name, fake birthday, and my profile picture is just my foot and the ocean, haha, so hopefully that will keep the accounts separate until I am ready to come out.

I'm fine with using Veronica here. I still like it, and may still use it in real life in the distant future.
Be careful using the second Facebook account on the same device and using the same browser as your original account, I think that's where they get the connection most of the time, though I wonder if they sometimes use IP address.

I'm still deciding.
I need somewhere to test out having people call me by a new name, too.
Hubby never uses my name for me anyway, so having him use any potential new name would be strange. Lol. He has other random things that he calls me.
I did use Kai, at places like Starbucks and Which wich. Both places call out your name. But I don't feel so attached to that anymore.
To answer one of your first questions though, no its not weird to try out a few names before you find the right one. I've seen where plenty of people have gone through multiple names. I've even seen where some people who are genderfluid have different names for each gender that they switch between.
Right now I think I've narrowed down my favorites to Kayo, and Mikio. Hubby likes Kayo more, but I think having an M name would be cool. So I'm undecided. He did try calling me Mikio earlier but like I said, I can't take him serious because he never calls me by my name anyway. So it ended up more funny and awkward than anything. Lol. Especially since he made his, "I'm trying way too hard to be serious right now" face while he was doing it.

Lmao I mentioned this in a reply yesterday, but I have friends who have created characters to use in tabletop games or RP groups to try out different names and pronouns. Personally, the only experimentation I've done with names is changing the name in the description of my private journal blog. I've heard (outside of this thread) that using the name you're trying out at coffee shops is a good idea too since it's so low commitment (as long as you're not a regular).
A lot of people go through a couple different names before they find one that fits. Don't pressure yourself to choose the first one that you like.

Amy reason for the M name? I've been thinking I want an A name, like my birth name, just because I've been going by A for the past few months.
We could try out some names here, if you want. I'm happy to call you by Kayo or Mikio or anything else you're considering. Maybe we could make our little signature thing, under our avatar, the name we're currently trying out and ask people to use it?

No reason, I guess. M is just different from my given name, which starts with a K. But it doesn't really matter. Maybe I just like the way Mikio looks written out, lol. Yeah, we could try that. Do you have any names you're considering right now?

Mikio means three trees together. I like Mikio even more, now. Especially since we're interested in druidry, and hubby's favorite number is three.
