I'm Puerto Rican / Dutch by birth, Puerto Rican / Irish from adoption. Born in FL, living in NJ 10 minutes outside NYC. Nice to meet you! As a Newfoundlander, I undoubtedly have some Irish in me too. Plus I was in Dublin a few years back. Have you ever been to Ireland or Puerto Rico? A. I have been to Puerto Rico a lot. We have a lot of family there. Although I love cold weather, which means I all but melt when I go.

I'm Scottish/Irish/Italian by birth, though look mostly Italian. Those genes are really dominant, it seems. I was born in the suburban Chicagoland area, then forced to move to a small town in NC in middle school, and because of stupid in-state tuition rules had to stay there until I was done with college...after that I went to Florida for awhile, and am now finally in California where I plan to stay for quite awile... Those in-state rules *shakes head* university is expensive here, but in the US it's just absurd !

I'm Japanese and German, mostly. But born in Pennsylvania and moved to North Carolina, with my parents of course, when I was 6. Then to Georgia for a year a couple years ago, and now I'm in South Carolina. Not sure what state or city I want to go to next... I'd love to try Portland, Oregon but that's a bit far away to be realistic right now. I always love trying to live in new places, but I'll always be stuck in the US I'm sure.

Cool ancestry and no need to be stuck in the States! Plenty of places to go. Though Portland does seem like a really nice place.

Well I was born and raised in North Syracuse, New York, then my mom moved is down to Charlotte, North Carolina when I was a freshman in high school, and I spent like 7 years in Charlotte, and meehhh I hated the south so much. I came back up to New York, like I think 3 years ago, whatevs. So I'm now currently back in Upstate New York area. If anything I think I'd like to live in Seattle, Washington!
As for my ethnicity I'm Italian, and Irish. my mom told me how her grandfather came over on boat from Salerno, Italy, and I know my mom's mom side were like Irish catholic. As for my dad's side all I know is there's Italian from his side, and I think English too as well? Like one super cool thing my grandma told me was how I'm related to Mary Warren, from the Salem witch trials! Like literally that was my fav thing to learn when I was a kid because I used to be obsessed with Salem witch trials, and I'd read tons of books on it, and I'd always eagerly hope that I'd get to learn about it in History class, but was bummed when they never covered it.

Riiiiiggfhhhhttt apparently on my dad's side we're related to john & Mary warren who came over on the mayflower, and also my grandma is always going on about how I'm related to like Joseph Warren, and she gets so excited over how he played major part in American history, idk know much about him, but honestly I was waaayy more interested in finding out about Mary warren, because I've always been extremely interested in witchcraft, and still am today!

Its getting interesting.
Part of mine is also connected to the Mayflower, on my fathers mothers side.
His name was White.
So on one side, I am many generations.
On another side, I am of Irish decendency, 3rd generation American.
There is a mix of English, Danish and Scotch, but its mostly Irish.
And my wife immigrated from Guyana when she was 17, and is Indian. They came over poor as dirt and worked their way up from nothing, a family of about 9 living in one room. Legally, if that is of any interest.
In her home country, the soldiers that were in power took away the right to bear arms, and began raping the women at will. This was in the 60's and 70's.
Her family had also converted to Christian and the people in the village would throw rocks at them and at the windows. They had an incident with black magic being used on one of the kids, in conjunctioning with poisoning her.
She survived it, and was healed in the church.
I take what is going on around us very seriously.
In her home country, if you were gay or trans, they lynched you. those same people are now here, in my family. And I cut them off now, quietly, just stopped being around them, living my own life.
They will harm me if they can, if they find out. But at this point, they will have more on their hands than they can handle with me. I'm done with it.
Justice was done when it had to be, the families would defend themselves. My wife was in a forced marriage, for her husband to get his green card it turned out, then she was thrown aside when the green card came.
Justice was exacted with a baseball bat, her ex husband survived it, barely, the one who did it is dead now, dead as a result of a botched surgery with a track record of the surgeion where his dead patients for some reason are all Indian.
But I am originally from the cow country in upstate new York.
I am greatful to live in NYC. It became my island of refuge and my home, it is my safe place where I can blend in, and can thrive.
And those who matter, they really like me being here, in the theater, and in other places, living my truth, helping those who I can, and loving all who I can be near.

Kind of off topic maybe, but what didn't you like about Charlotte/the south? Like, what is it that you like more about living up north? Like I mentioned, we are trying to decide on some places that we would like to make plans to move to. But I only lived up north for the first 6 years of my life... so I don't remember much if anything, lol! Plus, it was a very small city in pennsylvania, anyway. I guess we mainly want to be somewhere where there are a little more like minded people than there are here. We're vegan, trying to get into druidism (that's what we decided on) very against racism in all forms, very left-leaning I guess in general, we would like to build one of those "tiny houses" for ourselves and focus on minimalism and being environmentally-conscious..... and also just started to get into skateboarding. Not many people here are like that. Lol! I know nowhere will be entirely like that and I don't expect it to be but... it sucks being literally the only ones around. You know? I'd like to be somewhere where there are at least some people that are similar. Kinda tired of being the only ones.

I'd like to be somewhere where there are at least some people that are similar. Kinda tired of being the only ones. Hmm well for me the reasons I didn't like the south is omg this is gonna horrible, but I don't like southern accents so like having to hear those on a daily basis was like omg no thanks. Also I don't like how Bible Belt, and conservative it is you know?? Like it's also really uncomfortable with how people legit still hang the confederate flag like the American flag Im some parts of Charlotte. It's so weird that people have so much pride in their racism, that they still hang up confederate flags! Also I find it funny when everyone talks about "ohh the south is sooo nice like everyone says hello to each other " and honestly yea people are nice and say hello to each other, but people are nice to your face, and then they're like talking shit about you. (Okays probably not just a southern thing, but that's what I've noticed more of down there) Idk maybe it's more because mom literally moved us down there, and we were so super close with our family who are all up in New York, so I went from seeing everyone on a more regular basis to like you maybe few times a year. However to be fair to charlotte, there is a huge LGBT community, and they get shit done! Like I remember I was apart of Time Out Youth, when I was 19 & 20, and it's such a great organization that gives LGBT youth a safe place to just chill, hangout, they do discussion groups, and it's just such an amazing organization!! Also when I was at CPCC, I was apart of a LGBT club called Spectrum, and I met soooo many cool and amazing people! We even set up a protest in support of a trans student who got suspended by security for using women room. So we had a protest, and omg we had media news & everything! Then after that time out youth, had a protest outside of CMS school board meeting for trans student rights, and some youth spoke out at the meeting, and omg all respect for these students because they gave really good speeches!! Also Charlotte Pride is always so dope! Like I was soooo involved within the LGBT community in Charlotte, and apart of a lot of protests/activism. I also heard that when I was living in Charlotte, that Asheville was most progressive, artsy, and the place to go for weed. I will say the one thing I miss the most about Charlotte, is my two best friends who I miss everyday! I'm trying to hope I'll have enough vacation hours saved up by august so I can plan a trip down for Charlotte pride, and see my best friends again because we totally are in need of a long overdue hang out session! Umm as for where I live in New York, I'm in Upstate New York, in like a really kinda shabby, and rundown area! Like I live in a historic neighborhood so like I'm in the more nicer area of my city. Although a casino has just opened like down street from my house, and most people are hoping it helps the city like build itself back up. Who knows I guess we'll see?? Also apparently Albany is really expensive, and I wouldn't mind finding some roommates, and living up in Albany, because there's more of an LGBT scene in Albany, than in city where I live. However I will say I find it so annoying that it's been so hard to find a way to get involved with the LGBT community in Albany, because it seems like there's nothing to get involved in with, and I've heard others pretty much tell me the same thing I've noticed. Which is weird because you'd think the capital of New York would have tons of stuff going on! Like I'd love to get involved like I was in Charlotte! Also omg the gay scene in Albany is like they're very cliquish, and standoffish, so even that makes going out to bars kinda meeeehhhh! My hometown North Syracuse, however I hear that there's not much there anymore like barely any jobs, and it's beginning to become rundown. Although I miss Syracuse, and I wish I moved back to Syracuse instead of where I'm at now. Mostly because Syracuse is where my mom side of family is, and my brother is now back in Syracuse too, so if I could much easier see my aunts and brother it'd be cool. Okay so to talk about New York State in general, I've actually been pretty happy here I mean the minimum wage is better here compared to the like $7.25 an hour I was making in Charlotte, NC. Like when I moved back to New York I started out at $8.50 minimum wage, and now 2 years later I'm making $11.25! But then that's because of Panera Bread, falls under fast food, and fast food places minimum wage keep jumping up higher after governor passed $15 an hour thing. So like I'm finally able to live a bit more comfortable on my own! Also health insurance wise omg so I guess apparently NY state has started a new health insurance for those with low income called Essential Plan, and its only like $20 a month or free for those who qualify, and I qualified for the free plan this year, and my insurance covers everything! I just pay a $3 copay. I hear people talking about how New York, has like really high taxes. That's what I mostly hear people complain about, and I hear people complain about Cuomo, but I've actually liked what I seen he been doing the 2 or 3 years I been in New York now. However as much New York is more progressive, there's still racism, and that's the scary part that you gotta look out for is those who claim to be progressive, but are also silently racist. Like yea it's not as blatantly aware as in south, but it's still well and alive! I mean especially when I try to have conversations of white privilege, and how white people are racist because we're all raised & taught racist things, and we gotta try and go back and unlearn the racist generalizions/stereotypes. (Sorry I'm trying to word this properly, but my mind is like not working! I'm trying to comment on our institutionalized racism that our society is built on and that white people benefit from) but anyways yea my point being is that people just always go on with "privileges what privileges I had to work hard" yada and into how they struggled. And it's like that's not what this conversation is about the conversation is about acknowledging that as a white person you have a higher percentage of getting a job, scholarships, or ability to not have to worry about getting pulled over my police and making out alive! Like as a white person we have it easier to navigate through society than others do. It's just people don't want to admit that yea we're all racist, and that we should acknowledge it and work on ourself to rewire ourselves away from what we're taught! Like our institutionalized racist society is going to continue until we stop and acknowledge our white privilege, and actually start speaking up for others, and against the system and handing the mic over to minorities so they can have their voices heard! Like I always hear someone say I'm not racist, and then they'll say something that's racist, and they'll try and explain how what they said wasn't racist, when guuurrrll you know it was racist just admit it, and try to start remembering to catch yourself, and unlearn all the racist aspects we're taught. Anyways sorry I digressed there. But yea no the north is still pretty progressive, of course where ever you go there's gonna be ignorant, hateful people sadly. I guess just do your research into certain areas economically, socially, etc umm yea! Good lucks with your guys move!

Oh it'll be a while before we move anywhere far away, like probably a few years!
But thanks for your response! It sounds a little nicer there than here. I'm not too involved with the LGBT community honestly so that part won't bother me.
And yeah you named some of the things I don't like about the south lol.
Although, not liking the accents? LOL that made me laugh. Unfortunately I think I have a slight accent from living here for most of my life. I don't really like it though either.
Oh and Asheville was one of the places we were considering! It's close, like 2 hours from here, and we visited once and it's so pretty.

If you want to try a little farther North I could recommend Montréal. Plenty of English speakers and very diverse. Their gay village is amazing and beautiful. I go a few times a year to visit my friend's parents. Also, as another option, the province of Ontario has a new option for gender on their health cards: M, F, or X. Almost makes me regret moving from Ottawa into Quebec! A.

Unfortunately, I think in order to get citizenship there you have to be educated in a field that they want, don't you? Or at least that's what I've read. That would kinda mean we wouldn't be able to.
