For all the MTF non binaris Shaving. Always go with the guy's shaving cream. It is way better than the women's crap they try to sell us. Alwyay use conditioner and a really good guy's shaving cream over the conditioner. Use nothing more than a twin blade razor. All the 4 and 5 blace razors will just up your chance of getting razor burn especially in the "bikini" area. Not to mention if you "all the way". Hair. Let that shit flow naturally. Put enough stuff in it to look naturally unruly. I love straight hair but wasn't blessed with it so naturally unruly curls with a little "unrulyness" to them is my best look. Makeup. Match it to your natural skin tone then accentuate your eyes, brows and a little blush to make you look "innocent". Match those brow wit your hair color girls. Blonde hair and really dark brows stand out way too much. Alah the new girl on NCIS on Tuesday nights. UGH. If you are a bottle blonde at least get close to matching your brows with your hair color. Shave every day. We will always be scrutinized more than cis girls. You shave your legs, either shave you arms or trim it to women's length. My ex had harrier arms than me. Kind of gross really. UGHHH. Brows pluck them everyday so you donp't get the "shadow". That sux even with cis girls. C'mon I pluck those strays and new hairs everyday. Cis women can't? UGHHH women with bad brows is a pet peave of mine, I do mine everyday and I'm a trans woman so a cis woman should give a little bit of time instead of letting those " strays peak" through. Of course my showertime is an hour and a half so... But I'm a little bit of a primadonna. I love it though and wouldn't trade it for anything else in the world. I love being girly. No I love being girly seriously though.

Remember in the "Guy" days when you were trying so hard to be a real guy? After shaving your mug then there was "skin bracer" alcohol based watery stuff that you were suppose to slap on your face and feel like a real Gillette he-man, ouch-shit-cripes! That stings as you are drying out your face, aging it prematurely and wondering why it's always so chapped on cold windy days. I threw that away long before I even started transition and began moisturizing after shaving, been getting complements ever since about not looking as old as I should for my age, I'll go with that!
I prefer the blue Gillette throwaways, the two blade ones without the white snot strip. I quit clearing my face after two years of bi-monthly electrolysis and said to hell with it. I have some blonde with grey facial hair, fairly sparse so if I change razors each week I look completely cleared, smooth and baby faced.
One thing y'all need to know is that as you get older those nose hairs become obnoxious and need to be constantly buzzed out. I'm even getting ear hairs and have my S.O. go after them. Then there are the occasional eyebrow hairs that decide they want to become antennas. I've seen older men that could form a mustache just from their nose hairs, and old geezers that look like they are growing cotton balls in their ear pans...yuck! Personal maintenance has got to be a constant priority, there's nothing narcissistic about it.

I use an electric shaver. Works waaaay better for me than any regular razor ever did. No shaving cream, no water... I've never used aftershave, but Shan's description of it sounds awful, so I'm glad I didn't. I just shave and then use some lotion.
I just leave everything else how it is. My hair was not meant to be styled in any way, shape or form. It does exactly what it wants and does not care what I think about it, and I've learned to like it. It's a jungle of curls. I just shampoo it every so often and let it be. I don't even brush it. It doesn't seem to get tangles or anything, and looks far better if I don't. If it wasn't for that damn bald spot on the top...
Don't style/pluck my eyebrows. One of the few natural features I have that I love. Rarely do anything about nose hairs... May never wear makeup other than to try to hide facial hair, honestly. I know everyone on the forum is gonna disagree with me, but I prefer the natural/no makeup look on women most times.

i love natural. it just looks so much more... natural...
i'm too lazy to shape my brows. hate to shave other areas than my face, so i bought some nice swimming trunks that i use with a sports bra. to make my unshaved legs look less out of place. i don't like growing bushes under my arms though, so i decided it's best to cut the hair down to a couple mm about once a week. the hair's not black, so it's invisible enough for public baths. and short enough to avoid obnoxious odors.

I agree, guy's shaving creams are MUCH MUCH better than the girl's stuff. The foam is much better than the gel, IMHO but either would do the trick in providing a closer shave. I tried using electric shavers but for some reason, I can never get it all the hairs, I always miss patches no matter how many times I go over it... yet going over my face once with shaving foam and razor, it's immediately gone.
I love grooming. As soon as my face stops feeling baby smooth, I know its time to shave again.
I shape my eyebrows with a nose trimmer, it is so much easier than plucking. Plucking hurts. I like to shape my eyebrows to look thinner and angled because why should girls get to have all the fun with the very meticulously shaped pretty eyebrows?! I also have to use the nose trimmer to trim down the hairs in-between my eyebrows to tame them because if I don't, It becomes the beginnings of a unibrow... no thanks!
Best Google pic EVER. Love this guy's face haha! Having some very philosophical thoughts going on about that nose trimmer.
Wonderful thread!

Electric razors don't get as close as a standard razor blade does, bit it's a matter of personal preference anyway. My spouse went to a weekend retreat with a lot of other women. Next morning she saw one of the women standing at the bathroom mirror shaving her face with an electric razor. The other woman said, "Oh honey, as we get older we all get dark facial hair, I just don't want to look like a walrus!" Turned out to be true!

Not every Electric razor is capable of getting every hair. It's buyer be ware when you buy him because you tend to pay for what you get, but not always. Anytime you can check reviews and feedback regarding one you should so you get idea of there are any issues with it. Mariah I always check reviews of items before i purchase them Something my mummy instilled into me when I was teenager going shopping. I currently have two shavers - a Braun Cooltec I got on sale for $99 and a Phillips Body Groomer for $49. The latter worked better than the former so it's true that expensive doesn't always mean it's better... The Braun Cooltec was hailed at getting a very close shave by reviewers... I found this to be misleading as it wasn't the case for me... unless I am inept at using electric razors which wouldn't surprise me!!

Generally I use a "Venus" razor which has conditioner and shaving lubricant built in. Yeah Jamie it has five blades and costs too much, but it totally rocks a bikini line. OMG, I used one of those on my face the other day and I ran my hand over my cheek, expecting a smooth appearance, just wasn't expecting it to feel slick! I was like, "get this stuff offa me! What is it?!"

I used to like the older two bladed venus, once they went to three blades, they didn't seem to do any better than the rest. Now I just use blades that I used on my face and retire them to the shower for a bit before tossing them.
The five bladed things are useless though, not even close to a close shave. And I've tried disposables and they don't do well for me, so I just stick with mach 3 cartridges.
I'm lazy about shaving my legs though, there's a bit of fur there, lol.
And no one taught me anything about grooming growing up, I had to figure it out on my own.

Lots of gals don't shave their legs often during the colder months, it strips away the natural oils and unless you're into a lot of continual moisturizing what is the point when you're going to have your legs covered anyway?

A good moisturizing lotion works better anyway. Plus it does wonders for your skin face or other wise. Alcohol based aftershave though, doesn't alcohol dry your skin out? But OMG I think it's more of getting your skin used to shaving. I grew a goatee for about a month one time and when I got rid of it I went through pure hell because the skin was extremely sensitive. I actually had a rash for a couple of days that was the same shape as the goatee. Never again.

Two blade on body hair. Using anymore blades, especially when they have been used a few times will pull up to much more delicate skin that gets nicked, especially of you want to get closer and shave against the grain. I like those battery powered ones, they are quicker, but just a good (not Bic) regular one will do. The first blade is set at an angle that pulls the hair up slightly so the next blade cuts below the skin line. Same thing with more blades, and the four-five blade ones, the last blade will stay a lot sharper than the ones before it, it has a much more aggressive cutting angle than a two blade. More than a two blade works, but you run the risk of taking skin along with it, it is very dependent on the direction you shave and the amount of pressure you use on them. I use a five blade powered one on my face, I use it in several directions and use less pressure because of the power 'buzz'. That allows the blades to slice rather than axe their way through. The point of a powered razor. Less pull on the skin and less pressure that causes burn. Face skin is a lot tougher than the skin on most of your body. Whatever you end up using for lube is entirely up to you, personal preference. The idea is to let the blade slide over your skin, so whatever works. Try using just water and then even a slight amount of soap it's apparent that it takes very little, but it depends on your shaving style. Even sweat is better than water. I used to 'dry' shave in the field when bored, but sweating. Just use less pressure. Conditioner is harder to rinse the old hair out of the razor with. Another point, is that it pays to rinse them after pretty much each stroke, otherwise you are cutting already cut hair twice and wearing out the blades twice as fast. Also washing the dirt off first, even if you don't think there is any is needed to keep the blades lasting longer. Think about all the really fine dirt that is in the air. To the edge of a sharp blade, it looks like boulders.
Even when I was very young, I used to shave my armpits regularly, because all that hair leaves twice as much area for the bacteria that smells. The reason guys smell different there is mostly that and the pH of the sweat that is particular to underarms. Why you smell better on even LD HRT. But it really does cut down on it.
I was laughed at by the other guys in the showers for doing this way back when, until I explained that being on field work for days at a time leaves you smelling from a mile away. Deodorant just doesn't work, if you don't want people or animals downwind from knowing you're there. I personally don't like the idea of antiperspirants. Good idea, they said... they started to shave that way as well. I took it further and used that to be able to shave body hair in the showers as well, I can't stand it. LOL! Big burly musclebound macho's shaving their legs and all that macho chest hair... I think they finally found a way to quit the macho crap and shave that disgusting crap off, just like most everyone probably would rather do than look like Chewbacca... But it also lets the sweat be absorbed by cotton clothes better and you stay cooler and sweat less and in turn smell less. A real necessary thing for me back then, more than just smelling better. I grew up using double edged blades not much better than a sharp knife blade. I could shave with a straight razor as well as my knife back then. I like my powered razors...

Yeah I like two blades but more than that just irritates my skin. I forgot my old razor at home one day and had to buy a brand new one. It was a fourblade razor and OMG, my legs just wasn't anywhere as smooth as what I get from a twinblade. I love my widehandle white and green Venus that I have had for ages. I do use the Gilette Sensor Exell blades though with it. Two blades only. OMG the five blade razor just really not that close of a shave and really iritated my skin. I love my old Venus. It seems that knicks and cuts always seeemd to happen more with the skinny handle razors when they tend to twist and turn. But one other thing though when shaving is use conditioner under the guy's shaving cream. THose women's saving creams stay away from. I read this in Glamour Magazine a long time ago. So Pure Silk shaving cream is a cheaper version of the Gilette guys shaving cream. Use a girly razor but use guy's blades and shaving cream. They are generally better.
