Ah. Either that's the worlds biggest saddle on a really big horse or he really is that short. The bridle looks like a torture device to control the horse. I'm trying to figure out why he holds the reins like a kid on a trail horse and he needs heels so his foot doesn't get caught if the horse does act up. See that right foot? It can slip right through and drag him around while the horse tries to get that thing off it's head. I like the horse though, and the rifle. Looks like the strap fell off on one end and what's with the glove? Both pics look like he is trying to prove he has an attitude and neither show any confidence to me. He should have a hat on, just say'n. But for who he wants the world to think he is, he should actually be doing something. I keep seeing these kinds of pic of him, where it looks like he could be doing something, but he isn't. Poser. Nope, I don't see sexy just because he took his shirt off for a photo session, and he has the wrong kind of confidence for that attitude of his. KGB. I still think he's a little sexy though. I do see what you mean by the sling. I see what you mean by the right foot in the stirrup. Combat boots aren't the best thing to wear while riding a horse. That is why cowboy or in my case cowgirl boots are the better choice. No tread and can slip from the stirrups and the heels can stop you a little quicker or let you plant yourself when your pony throws you and you still got the reigns. Still though. I don't care I still thing that is a little sexy. KGB or not. Anyway it's all politics and image. He may not know crap about horses or ponies especially cow ponies. Out west you don't want a really big horse anyway. Small and strong. But the horse is beautiful, when it comes to politics maybe we need to see our leader on something other than a golf cart and with something other than a gold club or basketball in his hand. Thank you Ativan now I see what the photos were all about. It is really a shame because Putin in these photos identify more with the people in fly over parts of the US than our dear leader in a golf cart and playing hoops. Kind of sad really now that I think about it. I have nothing against Obama even though I am libertarian but I do wish he could identify more with me. Hell if Michelle was a transwoman like some stories on youtube and their daughters were actually adopted, I could identify and even be proud. But... Sorry but we all have our own points of views. But this is the reason I hate politics.

Lol! I could care less what any politician does in their off hours, if they even get any. Golfing seems to be the US Pres thing to do, even when they suck at it. Playing pool on a pool table instead of cow pasture pool would be better. I'm not particularly fond of any of our world leaders, mostly because I can't figure out just what it is they are leading... They are determined to keep those black lines on the maps and in some cases, move them a little.
Anyways,... Pronouns. 'Hey you!' works well enough. Mostly I could care less. Just so long as the person isn't being malicious, it really doesn't matter.
*That and I want a horse again, I'd like a throwaway that misbehaves. It's good therapy for myself, as well as the horse, to gentle them.

Ativan
Your use of the word 'gentle' is playing with my head. Keep thinking of 'one flew over the cuckoo's nest' and how some therapies have been used to 'gentle' folk.
Don't know why this common term has triggered so much. Need to clear my head and meditate ...

To gentle a horse that misbehaves is to find the root of the problem and then gently assure the horse that it doesn't need to be. I used to take in rescue horses that would have otherwise gone to the kill market. All because nobody wanted to take the time to calm them down. Never use a heavy hand, that's what started the problem usually. I've taken in ones that bite, kick, refuse to be touched even. The longest it ever took was three weeks to turn them back into the horse they were trained to be, usually just for pleasure riding. But it takes until they trust me, and then others, before we find out the true extent of their training. Most of them moved on to be kid's horses, usually their first one. It takes longer to teach the kids to care for the horse. From what I hear, some of those kids are now adults and still have their same horse. It's a process, the worst part is to get them to understand that you aren't going to hurt them and to get them to join up with you. The technique, and there are other ones, that I used was to throw out the end of a long rope towards the rear of them to get them to circle a round pen. They eventually tire of this and indicate they want to quit by putting their head down, like they are grazing. This is a natural way of them saying they want to be submissive, it's the very same thing they do as wild horses. Usually a lead horse will chase a misbehaving younger one until they do this same thing. You stand in the middle at a 45 degree from them, not looking at them, the lead wild one will also do the same thing. They walk up slowly, you stand still long enough and they will gently touch you from behind or the side. Extend an arm out slightly until they acknowledge that and when you can touch them as well, you've joined up. It takes time, but as soon as you gain enough trust to be able to scratch at the bottom end of their mane, they will at least turn their head into you. Then it just takes finding out what went wrong by observing and showing them that whatever set them off won't happen again. That can take some ingenuity. But mostly it is found in handling them in different ways, always gently. It's all about trust. Joining up is also done with the eventual owner. To see the thrill in a kids eyes as they realize it, is even better than when they join up with you. Some people think that a dolphin coming up to them is therapeutic. When a horse does it, you know the horse is as thrilled as you are. It is two souls joining up together. That bond lasts for years, if done right, even if you haven't seen the horse for years, they remember. Horse Therapy, of an extreme kind. The other is to have kids with problems simply ride on one. I've done that with kids who have all manner of disabilities. You can see it when they realize the horse knows they are on them. I've taken a few that were throw aways and put throw away kids on them. The horses respond in kind. That's gentling a horse, and that's therapy for me, one that works all the way around. It's proven to work better than any other method with an animal. Ativan

Oh, and pronouns... Horses don't really mind what you call them. They always get nicknames as well.

I love your dissertation on training a horse, trust is really the key word with any animal and also people.Without it there can be no bond and that is what makes everything work. Patty

Oh, and pronouns... Horses don't really mind what you call them. They always get nicknames as well. Well you really don't look much like a horse to me. But a nickname ,now that is interesting.and leaves open a multitude of possibilities.Being that you are always walking away from the camera or maybe standing still with your back to the camera and nickname usually refer to something about the person I think --Ativan- would definitely be appropriate. I leave the training up to those who do that. One of my daughters does train them for a few different disciplines. She's taken honors with a couple blind horses that she's trained. When she was still in her early teens. Gentling them is just getting the kinks out of them from being abused and scared. Good one, but I've never been able to answer to a nickname, so Ativan will have to do.

Now, just to play with your mind. Suspend your disbelief for a moment. Perhaps there is a horse, a fractious horse. This horse was born with a female brain, a male physique and the wrong chemicals aka hormones. Gentling as you described it, may 'work', it may be the accepted treatment, but what IF!,,,
I can't help thinking that the brutal treatment of trans folk over the years may have also been described or justified as 'gentling'. Please don't take this as a criticism. Just thinking aloud. Just musing. Just considering the possibility.

Please don't take this as a criticism. Just thinking aloud. Just musing. Just considering the possibility. Safe travels Aisla Horses used to be 'broke'. The techniques used often broke the horses spirit and while useful as a work horse, left something to be desired. They were fine for everyday use and by those who had little experience with horses. Today, there are and are now used, much more often in this country at least, different techniques that are used. The movie 'Horse Whisperer' was based on this. Researching the origins and resulting ways that horses are treated is very interesting and a learning experience in behavior. This technique is comparable to using therapy as a means to quiet the fears that a transgender person might have. It is based on allowing the horse to decide that it can be an equal, rather than dominated. 'Gentling' a wild horse taken from the herds living on BLM land has been demonstrated many times. Because there is a distinct difference in the ways that people communicate vs a horse, it is comparable to a therapist knowing and understanding not only the language, but the body movements as well. Almost all communication that horses use are body movements. While they do have a 'voice', it is mostly body movements that can be seen from distances greater than those voices can carry with the exception of what would be comparable to screaming in warning or fear. A lot of movement is subtle, up close, and it does take some time to get used to it. A horse can be telling you many things at the same time, can be communicating to individuals as well as a herd. Up close, the 'voices' of horses are most definitely used and the subtleties are very hard for humans to distinguish without learning and having an 'ear' for it. They also seem to be able to refine some of this for humans, to be able to communicate with them better. There are some very good documentaries about wild herds and while the narration leaves a lot to be desired, as they tend to give the horses human attributes, simply turning that dribble off and watching the videos and seeing how they do communicate is very helpful. I've spent hours watching them over and over and have learned the basics as compared to the very intricate ways they can and do communicate. There is distinct differences even in the distances as to how they do this. To learn while up close, it also takes a lot more watching than it does using hands on techniques. There are many people who employ various ways of using this style of communication with horses, and it is always improving, as there is always going to be some disagreement on the techniques and just what the horses are conveying as a language. There are no words for much of it that is comparable to the language of a horse, they don't think in the same terms and communication is not a simple matter of crossover as it is from one language to the next in humans. It is alien in compatibility in many ways. A human has to simply or not, get used to the way a horse thinks. Once this is accomplished to a degree that is acceptable to the horse, they accept you as one of them, of a sort, in a limited way. They are the only known animal that are willing to put up with and try to establish a commonality with humans, as humans are 'predators' to many flight animals, the meals as it is for predators. Where this comes from is debatable, but there are records that show the relationship of both species that run back well into the BC centuries. There is the story of how warring tribes in the deserts, had raiding parties and outright wars to steal the others most prized and needed possession, their horses. Having the right attitude and will, the war horses were the mares. When the Bedouin tribe was being over run for their horses, considered to be the best of the desert horses, instead of allowing them to be captured, they ran the herd over a cliff to their deaths. As the story goes, eleven of those mares were hidden away and kept secret for some length of time. The resulting breeding programs called for strict record keeping, falsifying them was punished with death. This kept the pool viable. Those records are still in existence and there are many straight Egyptian Arabians whose bloodlines can be traced back to those horses. Falsifying records is still punishable by death I've heard, as it should be. Most of the modern horse breeds have some Arabian in them, there are many variations. The Straight Egyptians are considered by many to be the most intelligent of horse breeds, especially in an all around sense. While most of the horses I have dealt with have been chosen because they are Arabian (the breed can be seen by characteristics in many of the BLM herds), my favorites are the Egyptian. My one stallion had bloodlines traceable back to the 'original' mares. So the lines of communication have been open between horse and human for a long time, as the records show, as well as evidence from archaeological finds. The need for horses to settle the wild west of the 1800's in this country meant breaking the wild horse that had herded up from mainly those left behind by the conquering Conquistadors from Spain. It was a quick and brutal way to make a horse usable by inexperienced settlers back then. It is glorified in old western movies, even in fairly modern ones that depict those times. It would be comparable to how Trans people are treated, as well as many groups of people that are not of the European 'white' stock that dominated and brutally settled this country, having learned those same ways of living from all the brutal an inhumane battles in old Europe to Asia. The gentling techniques have been around since the 50's, but have only been used to a large extent in the last few decades, but it is the accepted methods used today. It is letting the horse know you want to be it's equal, rather than forcing the horse to be yours. Thus the joining up of horse and human. It is acceptable to the horse. This is the key to joining up. When done properly, horses seem to want to do what they can for their human friends. Sometimes humans fail and resort to harming the horses, resulting in them becoming hard to live with and then becoming 'rescue' horse. There are many ways and reason this comes about, but it all comes down to that trust being broken. Gentling a rescue horse is regaining that trust from the horses perspective. Gentling a wild horse is gaining it's trust as well and involves much more in terms of varying methods, but the goal is for the horse to trust a predator, humans. Once they do this, they readily are willing to become more than an acquaintance, they bond in what we would call from the heart. Joining up. If humans applied this same kind of treatment to other humans, we would have no need for wars, poverty, borders. We would bond from the heart, rather than the mind. Ativan *Sorry for taking this thread on a wild tangent, but in it's own odd way, it does relate to how we use pronouns and so, it is integral to the trust we desire from others.

I don't know Taka. Mating is a pretty rough action in most of the animal kingdom. You ever saw a female and male dog mate? With the exception of fish, some aquatic mammals and some birds, it can get pretty violent. I think I will take my chances at being human, even though technically we are animals too. Or I can be with the right person. Actually I don't find too much wrong with gender stereotypes, male, female or a combination as long as it isn't tied with the sexual aspects of the human body. I mean really? Who actually decided that a male had to have a penis and a female a vagina. Women can have a penis and a men can have a vagina. It should be a state of mind more than a physical "thingy". If you really think about it though, why are we so down trodden by society (keeping up with the horse theme). I mean a trans man and a trans woman can procreate. I mean technically it will still be a woman and a man but roles reversed is all. It's just that for 9 months the man has to carry the child but after birth the woman can be the mother and the man the father. Well except for breast feeding but most people don't do that as much anymore. Even if I was a woman that could give birth to a child I wouldn't breast feed. After freakin' 9 months I would need a drink or something stronger and wouldn't want to put my baby at risk. So what is the real threat from us? Is society afraid we are gonna' create a race of super trans people that will conquer them? :rolleyes:Or is it something else? People tend to hate a degrade what they are scared of most.

There would always be whiskey, scotch, gin and a cold Keg for those that like draft and bottles for those that like bottles and cans for those that like cans. I would have theatres put in. One with chick flicks, another with action flicks, another with cis porn, another with trans porn another with gay porn and another with lesbian porn. The bar would always be open or bars. I would have a rap section, a metal section, a pop section, a hard rock section, classic rock section and even a country section, UGHHH But it would really be the people's house or The People's Party House. No more taxes because what I would make from the "clubs" and not golf clubs would more than make up for tax revenue. I would legalize pot through executive action and then tax that nationwide which would make up for the short comings of the income taxes. In the year 2020 everyone can call me Madame President. Seriously though. Politicians are such a freaking joke. I would be a joke but at least I would be real. Hell the horse Putin is riding has more sense than all the politicians put together. Hell a Jackass would even be better because thy have enough sense to not do whatever the rider does if they know it's a really bad decision. But we have enough jackasses in office now all around the world. But the pronoun thingy is under my avatar. Again not me because I ain't that pretty.
