What does being authentic mean to you?
Transparency?
Out?
True to self?
Reflecting your core?
Passing as a binary in public?
Being in your face transgender?
Being honest?
What does living an authentic life mean to you personally?
It means living truthfully to me, unless others are harmed by the ignorant.

I am who I am.. I make no secrets of who and what I am.. I no longer live behind a mask or filter.

I'm still learning about myself when it comes to what Authentic is to me.? I don't want to sound like I have these things figured out, as the more I learn, I find out that the more I have not learned yet.? As time goes on, I feel so humbled by everything, and all of the experiences here everyone shares.
Damn, I was so arogant back when I joined the NB group, it makes me shudder with embarrassment now when I look back..?
So far though, authenticity means me changing and growing, and embracing myself the best I can, as I do so. Authenticity also means to me to be able express and discuss my inner identity feelings with family, but I'm not there yet..
Authenticity, to rise up and walk through the worlds negativity with honesty, class, and genuine love in my heart that rubs off on all I meet, leaving a path of kindness and good vibes behind me. I want my authenticity to enrich others, not push others away or appear odd in their eyes. It's not that I care so much what others think of me or my true identity, but it matters to me to leave people and places better when I leave, than they were when I arrived.

When I came out to God and accepted myself the world changed to a more beautiful place. Yes , there were and still are some problems but most all have been mitigated through my determination to move forward in my and now our lives.Acceptance has enabled me to be on the outside who I was inside all my life. There is a reality component along with collateral damage but those were dealt with also.I can now say unequivocally that there has never ever been a happier period in my life for now I am truly a woman NB style. That answer has to be my answer too. I don't care what others see or think or think they see or think they know. They are not important to me being real to me. People are always gonna' see, think, feel, judge, like, dislike, love and hate others the way they want to. Let 'em. I can't control them, but I can control who I am. And I'm just me.

This is a little different take on the subject.Authenticity is also to me being recognized by my peers meaning you all and the people I come into contact with as being a woman. I received several cards from those few people who have my home address telling me how much of a role model I have been for them and how knowing me has given them the strength to carry on.They and the texts and emails I have received really touched my heart and truly gives me a purpose in life. Not just to be a transgender woman but to help those of us who need a shoulder to cry on and a steady hand to hold them. And I think above all someone who truly understands how we feel. I have friends spread across the LGBTQ spectrum and do my best to help them all,and each has rewarded me in their own special way.Validation of who I am from them is priceless. Patty

I posted this in another forest.
Standing up for and living out your truth, from the core, living a life worthy of living, harming no one, taking crap from no one, and loving unconditionally from the guts, if that is who you are in your core. Authenticity is genuineness, transparency, courage, life, throwing away masks and daring the status quo to be who you are, not who peer pressure or fear says you are, but living true, being the whole of who you are, without reservation. Only if another will be harmed will I back off, only if it causes pain or fear, but there will be learning and explanations and gentle nudges towards acceptance if that is needed, until a new understanding is reached, and bigotry or peer pressure is no longer tolerated but revealed as the evil that it is, a force of untruth, denial and damage.
But its a long process to get there, to reach this place. It comes at a high cost, but is it worth paying?
It is if it is done right, it is not if it is driven by self. What is driven by love endures, survives, and flourishes.
Are you driven by self? Or by love? By fear or courage? By hiding or by authenticity? By the shear force of the good of all trans or by old ideas that have outlived their time?
....thought it worthy of posting here too. It is not however directed at us, it was directed at the entire trans community on the other site.

Expanding on "being real" for me is my own self acceptance of fully integrated maleness and femaleness neither of which overshadows my commitment to those I love.

To me, personally, it means being real. Being transparent, honest, a person who dooesn't twist words, who does no mind games and her actions reflect her beliefs. To me that's the most important. It's to be free in your skin whichever way you are presenting. External presentation does not have much to do with authenticity to me, it's part of your style, how you want to present yourself, but it really is not the most important. The real you lies within your heart. Transition for me is just a confirmation of what there is inside already.
