I think there are two important factors:
1. The impact of the changes you need. If you want to use hormones, if you consider top surgery, that's more impactful than considering shorter hair. And thus, it's also easier then to not change at all. 2. The people who you love. If you're married, you have committed yourself to the marriage. If your wife loves you, you're bound to be more cautious because love is a precious thing. It matters if they understand what non-binary is. It matters if you're family lives in another country and doesn't even try to understand. And so on.

I'm the palest I've ever been currently.
A haircut is pretty temporary. Your wife might hate it, or might see you being happier and like that.
I'm more concerned about how my extended family I don't know that well is going to react. I keep being pushed to get to know them better, but I don't want to know more cis people that are probably not accepting at this time in my life. While on a certain level, I want to be totally out with everyone I know, what I mainly want is to not have transphobes playing an active part in my life.

Paleness is a relative thing, winter paleness in MN is like pale, people here go from glowing in the dark pale to tan and back again, and what is tan here is not tan in CA, just saying... Transphobes are a very strange kind of person, it makes me wonder what other things they are deathly afraid of in life that is not a threat to them, makes me think they leave the lights on at night because, dark. There are things in life to fear, and there are things that people worry about, but the idea that you are afraid of another person who could care less about you and then worry about it, takes a certain kind of mentality that is fearful of all sorts of things that are never likely to impact their lives. I mean if I have a fear of drowning in the ocean and live in the middle of the fricken continent, is that fear something to worry about? It's like the fears of the what if this or that happens, why be scared beforehand, worry maybe, but to live in fear, like people who live in fear that a asteroid is going to destroy the planet, seriously? If it destroys the planet you wouldn't know to begin with. Stuff that is more down to earth like covid or getting in a car accident, I meant thats reasonable, but to live in fear of another person who poses no serious threat to you and doesn't know you exist, thats kinda over the top, more a possibility that a pigeon will shit on your head and thats full of way more eeww than what if these trans people suddenly become like zombies and take over town after town and turen everyone else into trans, some people just need to turn off tucker carlson and live in reality, they would be so much better off and happy. Alligators in the sewers, this one just kills me, I suppose it could be a thing if you regularly went into the sewers. The Loch Ness Monster. Aliens. The devil. all things that you are never likely to see any more than you are going to win the lottery, but then these are the same people who are sure they going to win. The idea behind doing the what if is so that you see the real possibility of something going wrong, not the fox news version of it is going wrong and only they are talking about it, again turn off fucking Hannity and *ucker Carlson and go stare out the window and realize that there is actually very little wrong that can't be fixed and that trump is no longer the president and todays specials at KFC are more important than anything he has to say anymore, and that the republican party is eating its own and the best they can come up with for not liking Biden is that his dog is getting old. And damn that green new deal that texans were forced to live under because AOC, and Bidens real powers involve the weather and the cold to a state that is begging for federal assistance when just a couple weeks ago the were trying to secede from the country because you know, that would be so texan and would own the libs... especially since AOC forced them into this green new deal that caused everything, because she has the power the power the power to change TX law. Transphobes are like that, scared of something that they have no idea what it is exactly they are supposed to be scared of.
