3 years ago I made the decision to have a complete hysterectomy because my biggest triggera with my dysphoria was centered around my uterus and having a period that never ended. They told me what to expect and I was prepared. As an RN I have sat in on surgeries and I did research but no one told me that as my other internal organs settled my bladder would drop and I would have severe incontinence. Im not talking about a leaking a little urine when I cough or sneeze. I'm talking full on peeling myself and having it soak my clothes and the seat I'm on. I cant cough sneeze or laugh without peeing. I cant run, climb or even jump on a trampoline. I basically cant exercize at all. I'm 36 and I feel like an old person. Have an appointment to see what my options are because when they did my original surgery they pinned my bladder up but that obviously didnt last. I know they recalled the bladder mesh but maybe there are other solutions. But I just needed to let all my Afab friends who are considering hysterectomy to take into consideration what I'm going through. I may have gave up period pads but ive traded them from urinary incontinence pads and soon to be adult diapers.

As an RN you should get this out to everybody, not just your afab friends. But they definitely need to know that it will have a bigger impact than the doctors will tell them. I don't know if older women will experience the same thing you did (I'm thinking they will) but the more people who know the better. I'm filing this away for all the women in my life in case they ever need a hysterectomy. Thanks for spreading the word.
