There are other ways to do this, I hadn't seen this one before.
One of the other ways uses potassium nitrate and powdered sugar, easy enough to get and mix.
Then using crushed up and then packed kitty litter (minus the snicker bars), you can easily make a high flyer.
Leaves a trail of smoke and is illegal near airports and probably the white house, so light it and run like hell, it can easily go up a couple thousand feet.
