Rough article to read.
My healthcare here stinks, and in NY, one of the doctors in the trans clinic treated me pretty much as a prostitute.
Here, I have someone to give me my HRT, but I have no real healthcare for other things, the older things. The good news is that I get to determine my own HRT requirements, they give me that, out of respect. The bad news, is that for the serious stuff I could face, I have pretty much no care.
Its messy, to say the least.

And with the affordable care act, I have to choose either male or female.
I chose female, because I have physically altered to female, but it would be nice if it was more clear with insurance. Insurance only recognizes boy or girl. So either I take care of my mamograms and be she, or take care of my prostate which has BPH and a history of prostate cancer in the family.
I'll take the mammograms. Getting the prostate checked may be difficult, because in the eyes of the law and the insurance, I can't have one because I have to be a girl or a boy.
Not a fair system, is it.
At least, when I was hospitalized last year, I got a private room. VERY private, they literally hid me. For which I was quite grateful. Single room, everyone else was paired up.
Nice for me.

Don't expect healthcare to get any better now that Scott is going away, he, he made his millions stealing from healthcare funds and got away with it. The new gov is a trumper all the way, but that so much of FL once again went blue and the country going even farther, he should tread very lightly. But you know a big thing with republicans is they want anyone they don't like to die a horrible death, minorities and trans, they only want their healthcare. It isn't even a matter of the money to a lot of them, they just want the people they don't like and won't vote for them dead. When the ones who voted for the clown patrol find out they are going to even more screwed because they voted in the grim reaper will they realize they are going to be dying a slow death as well. When it comes to making america great, what they mean is isn't it great they can kill off the voters they don't like.

The scary part will be hospitalization, I'll have to go to Orlando if I need that. Not local. But we have one place we can go, and they have their own insurance, and almost everyone goes there. And since most of us don't have insurance that will pay for our HRT, the doctor gets the HRT on his own insurance, so we save about 200 bucks on a double script, I save a hundred a month because the doc gets it, they are pretty overloaded, but they get it, totally. And then send us to a pharmacy to pick it up, theres only one we can use to save the money, but we save big and they like trans people and they treat us nice, like human beings. Its not a worry to be outed, and its just outside the LGBT center, where the memorial is for the 50 lives lost at Pulse. I have barely scratched the surface of this place, but I am sure there is plenty to scratch, found out it is one of the strongest LGBT theater areas in the country, they don't flaunt it, its just the way it is. I need to find out more about the Fringe festival, it would be an excellent showcase for Indictment, and they waive the union requirements, nice deal for us. If I do it this close to home, and I may not. But yeah, we have our work arounds here, but its all one guy that drives that forward, there are others too, but not many. It used to be people drove all the way to Miami to get HRT. My old endo doc was good though, but it cost a lot. Even if they diagnosed me with Autogynephelia, I got my hormones, they can say what they want, my second letter has the diagnosis right, and my second therapist was trans and understood.

Getting the bottom surgery could be kinda tough, but I've lived so much as a woman, it should be a slam dunk.
Anyway, the point is, one way or another we will get what we need.

Medicaid here pays for surgeries and it is a lot easier to get on medicaid here than almost everywhere. I have to pay for it, still cheaper than insurance, and there is no copay, ever. It is unlimited, I cost a million they pay it no questions asked. We have a pretty good system of hospitals and the U is top notch in a lot of things and if they don't know, then Mayo does. And they aren't the only places to go to. Discrimination in healthcare here is not tolerated, it's illegal and it isn't very often that they care anyways. They see you as a patient, if you're different they want to know so you get the best care, all of this is true most of the time, there are exceptions for sure, but it's better each year. But here is where they came up with the standards of care for trans, the first and the revisions, and the same people pretty much are still here, some have moves away but then there are even more people who take their places. There is in most medico[ters around that they are not very far away, a good accident will have a few hovering over the first on in case. They are even better than anything else in the north most rural areas, so even that is covered here and the insurance exchange is homegrown from the obamacare one, same but the state decides on the rates and they beat the crap out of the insurance companies, they tried to get to get higher rates and they threatened to all bail and the state said go ahead and if you can't meet the requirements we don't want you anyways. They came back and at first it was dicey, but they are like a pack of dogs, if one is getting anything to eat, the others will take it away if they have to fight for it and they did here, So I hear that there is a lifetime limit on medicaid there in FL and it's hard to get and isn't taken by too many places, Rick Scott made sure of the slow death thing there... Look it all up at the various places that share state information on healthcare, it isn't the best here but it is in the top five or so, always is... Mayo Clinic. You're lucky to have the few who do care there, it is worse in other places, and that tells you a lot about healthcare in this country right there, my best and your worst are not the ends of it here, there are better and there are worse. And treatment can vary from hospital shift to the next in places, it is one of the reasons for staying up here in the cold, the healthcare is better.
