So I got a tip from my therapist through a caseworker friend of hers, that since I'm on Medicaid, I can set up transport to any consults or things like that. The caveat was that they may refuse at first for some reason? But to just come back and tell my therapist and it'll get sorted out. Ohhhhhhkaaaaaay....
Which leaves me with the burden of calling the surgeon's office I had in mind. I need to make sure they still take my insurances, and I can get something booked a ways out enough that the transport has enough forward notice. And that none of it falls during my vacation week in June. I just have bad phone anxiety and poor executive function... I sort of short circuit when I have to do something complicated I've never done before.
Does anybody have any idea how to proceed? I'm sitting here slightly panicked at the idea of just casually phoning the offices.

What I usually do, is write down what I need to say on a piece of paper. Try not to write too detailed of a script so you don't panic if you need to say something you haven't written, just speaking prompts so you don't feel like you have no idea what to do or say. Then sit in a quiet place where you feel safe and have that paper in front of you, take a few deep breaths, and pick up the phone.
I believe in you!

I just get horribly flustered when things go off in a direction I wasn't expecting, or get asked a question I don't know the answer to! But yeah, I think I'll try and psych myself up today to do it. Just hope nothing goes wrong.
