this dog came in from our open garage and is a very small teacup-yorksire-terrier and we took it to the vet, no microchip, it has a collar, with no tag

I moved this thread to the General Board since it doesn't have anything to do with non-binary topics. That seems pretty common, it's not weird at all. One of our cats, Puddy, came to our house with a collar that had no tag and we later found out, he wasn't microchipped. He decided our home was far better than his previous one and pretty much insisted on living with us instead from day one. He had a patch of furless skin on his front leg so we took him to the vet, turns out he contracted ringworm. We let the owner know and he didn't care at all. We went to the vet and found he wasn't microchipped... we definitely microchipped him there and then. We like to joke he adopted himself into our home. He's been happier than ever since.

I haven't been microchipped yet...
Society is closer than ever to being chipped in some sort of way. There are chips or sensors for all kinds of health related things, not used, but they work. The thing is, if you can read them for one thing, it would be very tempting to use them for other things as well. There is a strong push back against using them on people, but they could be used like a credit card as well. If they can track you using your phone, they could track you using a microchip, or so it is theorized. Think about all the things your phone is telling someone, if they wanted to know... What you buy, what you look at, where you go, there are predictive programs that use that information to send you relevant ads for their products. Today they will likely pass a bill that allows internet providers to sell your information about how and where you use the Internet. Just like the NSA has unlimited storage to keep info on you, so do the internet providers. They already passed in in the senate, it goes to the house today, your private information can now be legally sold to the highest bidder. So instead of it being sold under the table and illegally, instead of just the gov't having that info, now they can make money right up front. They can put you in the spotlight with predictive software, they can tell what you are likely to do, based on what you have done. You can thank trump and the republicans for that, they just sold you off to the highest bidder, so the rich get richer and now they can buy your information. So chipping people isn't really all that far away anymore, they just need some excuse, like a medical chip... that also tells a lot more about you. You could turn off your phone, disable the gps tracking, but they can still find you using it, all you have to do is walk by a sensor. They have them for shop lifting at store entrances, they read little chips in things people steal, they just deactivate them so you can buy it. But what if they just turn that part of it off and there is something else that it's doing? In a sense, we have all been chipped by the things we use and the things we buy. Taking pics with your phone? How hard it is to look at it when you send it to someone? They know a lot about you... There are proposals to chip people, to tag them. But it smacks of tattooing Jews by the Nazi's during WWII. You can get rid of a tattoo, and you can toss your phone and use a burner that you have to stay off the internet with. No smart phone, that smart is also telling someone or likely someone's, a lot of things about you, your conversations, pics of where you are. In a sense, we have all been tagged one way or another, and really several ways. We are just a small step away from being microchipped. They just haven't come up with a good enough excuse to do it. But they chipped your pets, you did that. Your phone is a chip. Things you buy have a chip. And now they will likely be able to sell all that information that you use on the Internet. So any computer you use that you log into, that information will be for sale. They have camera's up everywhere, a lot of them use the Internet to send the pic to your phone, or anyone who wants to surveil you. Because the internet providers will have the right to sell that information. To the highest bidder. It's kinda like we are the pets of the rich, of corporations that want to know what you do and when. Weirdness, this kind of stuff wasn't around when I was growing up, I remember when credit cards started to be used. People wondered and then accepted that the credit card companies knew what you bought and where, it became normal. The normal now is that we are a very small step away from being actually tagged with a chip of some sort. The best excuse they now have, is your medical information, in case of an emergency, but also convenience if you walk into a clinic or hospital. They talked about tagging kids, in case they got kidnapped or something happened to them. Parents kinda like the idea, but it still smacks of Hitler and the Jews. Weirdness is that we will be tattoo'd in such a high tech way. They're another step closer if they pass this bill today. Step right up to the next step in knowing what you do and where you do it,.. weirdness...

They did it, they jammed it through. Internet providers can legally sell all of your internet history to the highest bidders. They can legally sell your Social Security number, if it went through your provider, they can sell it.
