Hi, everyone. I'm new here so I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I only came out recently and it's been a long time since I had any freedom of fashion, so I wanted to put some feelers out and ask how important fashion is to everyone's gender presentation, and what everyone likes. I'm also looking for some new inspiration and tips on androgynous style. From the time I was a kid, I've been attracted to styles that express both masculinity and femininity, slightly off the beaten track. I love a few Japanese fashion trends in particular, including genderless/gender-free, mori girl and ikemen joshi (hotguy-girl). I also adore everything about Revoluntionary Girl Utena, which is often a big fashion influence for me. I like a juxtaposition of military looks and lace, browns, pinks and greens, and a lot of nature. But I've never tried to dress fully male before, so if anyone has any tips or inspirations on how to capture masculine fashion, I would love to hear them. Here's a pinterest board of the gender expression that I'm going for, if not necessarily the fashion I like specifically: jp.pinterest.com/gwendtaylor87/%E3%82%B8%E3%82%A7%E3%83%B3%E3%83%80%E3%83%BC%E3%83%AC%E3%82%B9/How do you use fashion to express yourself? What inspires you? Do you have any tips for appearing more androgynous with clothing alone?

Today i bought clothes for the first time in about a year. Here goes:

I don't really have any tips because I haven't figured out how to do this either. It depends on what your body type is like, I would imagine. I have to note that I think it's interesting how much cosplay is in your pinterest board. I feel like a lot of (especially younger) genderqueer people find themselves attracted to anime and particularly shounen ai lmao because there are so many androgynous men. I definitely was.
ANYWAY, I like dressing super causally. Lots of jeans & T shirts, huge jackets and ripped clothing for me. My slobby, grungey, kind of goth fashion sense is super important to me though. It feels like an authentic way to express myself. And even if other people don't recognize me as androgynous, in my opinion it's androgynous clothing.

i just wear whatever fits and feels comfortable. quite a lot of hand me downs too. only things i don't wear are shoulder pads and frills. as well as push up bras, because my breasts really don't need that at all.
my only real fashion statement is my hair. currently extremely pink, as i found this magenta hairdye which i bought a few years ago.

I don't have a fashion, but the look everyday of the year for a few years now is camo pants, wrangler from Walmart, and Hanes black T-shirts. Black runners or white, best if worn a lot, have that gonna fall apart look. Black hoodies for cooler weather, fleece lined for colder weather, black over size heavy duty winter coat for land of the wind chill factor weather. I have a bunch of jeans, haven't worn them in a long time, and a sweatshirt, grey, somewhere. Simple baggy pants that are too long, not to snug T-shirt,.. not fashion by any means, but a look none the less.

There are certain looks I really like that I am able to wear, like button downs with suspenders and oxford shoes at work, and other things that aren't really compatible with my body right now because even with a binder my chest still shows (this can be an issue with suspenders sometimes)
I think I'll enjoy fashion a lot more once I'm able to take more steps to achieving a neutral body

Jeans and Ts. if you are femme then you can get feminine ts and jeans. If you are masculine then you can get men's jeans and ts. BTW Goth can be sexy and fashionable too. The shoes make the difference for masculine or feminine.

And if you're androgynous, you can get both "female" and "male" tees and jeans There's no reason to be limited to just one section when shopping. The world is your oyster! Goth is an excellent example of androgynous fashion. I love a lot of hairstyles and fashion from visual kei. A lot of men look androgynous and I especially love the ones where they mix "male" and "female" clothes together (vest and tie with striped shirt, yet one half of the bottom vest has a long layered tiered skirt that reaches to their knees and wearing long hair) I put quotes in because clothing don't have gender.

I just found my style in April. I love wearing dress shirts and bow ties. I would say my look is preppy. I also finally found someone that cut my hair like I wanted. Sine I started dressing thing way my confidence has improved and I finally feel like myself. When I don't wear a bow tie I wear a baseball hat that matches what I am wearing. 😎

I used to dress to stick out, and to stick out in an aggressively masculine manner in the daytime and as confusing as possible a manner out at night. I still dress in the same confusing way when I go to clubs etc., but I've really toned down my day-to-day clothes because I find it easier to pass if I blend in as much as possible. Plus I once got punched in the face for wearing a hat. This town isn't the place for eccentric clothes.

I'm still trying to figure out what my style is. It tends to change, I guess.
I painted my fingernails pastel pink today, because why not. Men's clothes with pastel pink nails. Hahaha
I do feel like I'm slowly figuring myself out, though. Maybe.
I hesitate to say that though because it will probably change again in a few months.

I tend to dress more on the masc side of things, but a lot of what I wear is chosen because it's baggy enough to disguise my chest. I'm looking forward to eventually wearing clothes that fit me again someday. I do like button downs and bowties, I love knitted sweaters and suspenders and layering clothes. I wear a lot of t-shirts under open button downs with jeans and sneakers/boots. The only real constant in my wardrobe though, is a hat. I wear beanies ALL THE TIME. Inside, outside, watching tv, playing with the kids. It makes me feel safe somehow.
Maybe, once I'm flat chested, I'll be able to wear tank tops again. I miss those.

tbh I don't know much about fashion lmao. Binders are nice to get a more androgynous look if you have decently sized breasts for whatever reason. You'd probably be best looking for fashion styles you like and trying to emulate that -- at least I think that would feel best. You should be able to shop in men's or women's sections without much issue, and you can shop online if you have to, as well (just learn the sizing systems because sizing is never consistent).
Personally I stick with casual clothes, usually dark colors. I like sweaters, hoodies, pants, and suits (so generally masc clothing). I usually don't pay careful attention to what I wear, but I'm most comfortable when my body is almost entirely covered for whatever reason.
