So I mentioned that we are looking into getting some land somewhere and building a cob house! (Or other sustainable housing, but probably cob. We want to do this because it's cheaper and there's no way we'll ever finish a regular house because of the cost of it. Cob makes it more affordable and actually potentially do-able for us, vs normal building methods that we could never afford. Plus, sustainable living is pretty cool.)
Anyway, my luck hasn't been the greatest when it comes to finding land for sale, so far. So if anyone happens to know of any, or if you know of a more efficient way of looking, please let me know!
We need it to be:
Yeah, not an easy task. But I did find some that fit most of that... and I'm just waiting to hear back if they fit the rest of it. So I know it's possible.... but I also know not everything is listed online, which sucks.
I've tried Zillow, Land Watch, Land and Farm, Craigslist, and a couple other websites so far that I'm keeping an eye on.
Also... my parents will be losing this property we're living on in the next year or so, so that's why I'm having to try extra hard to find something and make plans and get started on it as soon as possible.
So if anyone knows more than I do about this stuff and has any ideas... that would be really awesome!
In the mean time, I'm hoping one of the ones I found that's relatively nearby ends up being what we need... because closer is easier...
Oh, and if anyone wants to come help us build it once we find a plot of land, you're more than welcome to. lol! Come learn how to build with mud with us.

We need it to be:
- In the USA. (Moving to another country with two cats would be very expensive and difficult, as much as I would love to try)
- No building restrictions! (None of that community, neighborhood, Home Owner's Association crap. They would never let us build anything other than the typical house. Not to mention I actually found one that goes so far as to tell you how many pets (2) you can have in your own house. That you own. And built. How are you going to tell me what I can have INSIDE my own house that I OWN??)
- Within an hour (preferably less if possible) drive of a decent sized city. For job reasons. And ease of shopping for things.
- Somewhere around $5,000 or less. (We're probably going to have to pay to have a well dug and septic put in, and either solar power or have power lines brought in. Solar would probably be cheaper. I looked up having power brought to a house and ugh, I saw one place say that having it brought just 100ft can cost up to $40,000!! Solar would be much cheaper, plus it's free power.)
- Financing? I guess is kind of necessary. Probably without a credit check. If we could pass that, we'd just get a regular mortgage... it would be simpler. But I have seen lots of properties that have financing without credit checks so I know they're out there!
