People like this are why I am obsessed with psychology. His actions are inexcusable and wrong, but what brought him to such a mindset lack of conscience to take advantage of and defile a girl? Like they say on Once Upon a Time, "Evil isn't born, it's made."
I know we all want to cast our stones and condemn this guy, but we also need to consider a bigger picture. Making an example of the morally askew only addresses what's on the surface. Putting them in jail is obviously an exercise in futility. So, what else is there to do? I'll tell you:
We have to pull our heads out of the sand and tackle these problems at their roots so that we can bring kids into the world that will never have to be subjected to the very surreptitious abuse and indoctrinations that damage their moral sensibilities which lead them to making these malicious choices in the first place.
We can't just put band-aids on everything, or throw everyone in jail who fucks up. We need to be making vital changes in the social environments our children are subjected to and ensure that they are properly educated in ethics and civility.
We can start changing these faulty and corrupt education paradigms by first deconstructing the public school system to make way for an intuitive and organic classroom environment. Then we make Ethics a required series of courses throughout the earlier grades. There are so many things that could be done.
On the other hand, we should also be becoming mindful of what may be happening in the home. If a child is being subjected to abuse of any kind they should be taken out of that environment immediately. Parents who treat their children poorly don't deserve them and should have them removed from their custody and placed in an environment that is wholesome.
We say "the children are our future", so why aren't we properly ensuring their futures? Why are we looking away like cowards from dysfunctional homes instead of intervening? Situations like this don't deserve the respect of privacy.
The darkness in this world is growing, yet all we do is avert our eyes and pretend it isn't happening; and many of us expect some authoritative agency or celestial superhero to sweep in and save us. It's pathetic, and it makes us no better than the people we condemn.

"Evil isn't born, its made".?? On the contrary some people are prone to act on impulsive thoughts without any thought of the consequences. Some people are born into horrid situations and turn out to be better and some people are born into good situations and turn out to do shit like this guy did. The human psyche can either be good or evil. Some of it may depend upon circumstances and environment. Some of it may depend upon dysfunction of certain parts of the brain. Some of it may depend on the human ego. That last sentence though about the human ego. This kid is a good swimmer? So he shouldn't serve the just amount of time in jail? Apparently the judge in this case was influenced by something other than Justice. AHHHH the poor thing. So a longer sentence would ruin his life? Really? Kind of like that other case where the kid was driving drunk and was responsible for some deaths but got probation then fucked up and his mom took him to Mexico. What about the life of the girl he raped? Who was she? Was she just white trash dressed too provocatively for him? Was she just the class slut whose family isn't rich enough to influence a judge? So his dad really talks about rape as "A 20 minute action"? OK Dad. How about teaching your little fucker about respect for others? Hell a 6 month sentence is probably all he needs. Most hardcore criminals do not like rapists. Especially the ones that have kids of their own. Snitches and child molesters the second worst and the rapists are a close second. Let's just hope he gets and enjoys it just as much as she, his victim, did. I'm pretty sure he probably will unless his daddy's money gives him a private cell like Al Capone. But hon, it ain't about education. It is way more about money, influence and who you know. Sometimes the justice system fails and sometimes there is Devine justice. A sexual predator in jail or prison? EHHH. Its iffy for them. Protective custody and suicide watch usually translates out to solitary confinement so if he is in protective custody it won't be anything pretty for him. If he is in the General Population, it won't be pretty for him either. But on the contrary again, there is no excuse for horrific acts against another person like this. Rape? I think everyone should get the maximum penalty if proven without a doubt and since there were two witnesses I think the DA could have pushed it. If the judge is prejudiced in any way, they should let another judge preside and sentence the criminal. But just look to our judicial branch. We have a Navy Seal that sent a pic of a confidential area without knowing it that is sitting behind bars but one of our presidential candidates can get away with sending confidential material on her own server? Then we have Benghazi an God knows what else? OMG. She says she thought C meant the third paragraph kind of like her husband didn't know that oral sex was actual sex and then said it depended on what the meaning of is is. It's not just the dems but all of them. It really seems like elitist immunity runs rampant in this country anymore.

older upper middle class women (this is a statistical truth in norway) are the ones who most easily blame the victim for being raped, and thus do their best to let the rapist go free. only if he's otherwise an outstanding young man, a good father, or has other good qualities that make it obvious that he'd only rape a slut who deserved it (not my words, but those of the female judges. not in public of course) by being too young to understand how dangerous the place she walked into really was. the girl being there means consent, no matter how unconscious she may be after the man has tricked her into taking drugs that will leave her unconscious or willing enough for him to rape.
i don't believe in good or evil people. everybody has both qualities, and even real psychopaths have the ability to choose the ethical good, based on logical considerations. while even the nicest person can commit horrendous acts if the circumstances get wrong enough.
