I just saw the American Dad episode "LGBSteve" where Steve pretends to be a butch gay girl to get on the roller derby team. Hayley urges him to confront the girls (especially one he was dating, Devin) and confess to being a boy.
So, he does, and they all say they knew. One of them even said, "Having a penis doesn't make him a boy!" Then they suggested to him that he might be a girl trapped in a boy's body. He says, "but I like girls!" Then they said "we all do". "You mean I'm a lesbian in a boy's body?"
So, he goes home to ponder on it with the unfortunate help from Roger (who wanted to saw his thing off). Well, in the end, Steve proclaims that he is, indeed, a boy. Instead of doing something meaningful and progressive with the story, the writers make his entire gender crisis meaningless.
You could have done something amazing, American Dad and TBS, but nooo... Instead, you create a narrative that makes trans people look like we're confused. Well done.

However, I would like to look at it like it can now start a conversation. An ice breaker that leads into a full discussion on why it was a shitty representation of us. If they don't want to listen then they wouldn't have even cared if the narrative was different.
I get why it really sucks the way it was done but I like to look at things like this as a way of opening the door where it would have other wise been uncomfortable to mic drop on the table the discussion.

I remember that one and thought it was funny. But it does shine the spotlight on lesbians though and therefore homosexuality and at least acknowledges us in some way that is not totally negative.
Personally I think being Trans and what spectrum is something that should be pondered really hard upon. How many have detransitioned? How many of us went through everything and then decided that it really just wasn't for them but was too late?
But there is another episode where Steve gets mixed up in a female gang. That one is pretty funny too. But it does put a spotlight on the whole trans thing though. There is also another one where Steve grows boobs because of something Stan gave him. I can't remember the whole story line but everyone wants to feel him up. Eventually Stan takes the same injection and they do a whole Whitesnake carwash scene at the end.
Who knows, maybe Steve will eventually turn out trans later on?

Oh and I forgot the episode that just played on Adult Swim a couple of nights ago where Steve becomes pregnant with Roger's baby from mouth to mouth resuscitation. It did throw a light on the whole right to life and right of choice issue.

An astute observation using just one word...
