Study Title Perceived Stigma as a Barrier to Mental Health Treatment for Transgender Clients
Study Purpose and Rationale
The purpose of this research project is to better understand the stigma transgender individuals perceive coming from their mental health providers, along with the possible connection between this stigma and the willingness of these clients to seek mental health treatment in the future.
Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria
To be eligible to participate in this study, you must be age 18 or older, identify on the transgender spectrum, have participated or are currently participating in mental health services, and area US citizen.
Participation Procedures and Duration
For this project, you will complete one survey. The survey should take 10-15 minutes to complete. You will be asked questions about your past or current experience with a mental health provider and any stigma you perceived a counselor or therapist to have had towards you.You will also be asked about your willingness to seek or continue mental health treatment in the future.
Data Confidentiality or Anonymity
All data will be maintained as anonymous. No personally identifying information will be collected.
Storage of Data
Electronic files of the data will be kept indefinitely in order to allow for future review and re-analysis. This data will be stored on a password protected flash drive. Only members of the research team will have access to the data, which will be stored on secure devices.
Risks or Discomforts
The only anticipated risk from participating in this study is that you may not feel comfortable answering some of the questions. You may choose not to answer any question that makes you uncomfortable and you may quit the study at any time.
If at any point you find yourself offended by anything in the survey,please feel free to contact the researcher with your concerns.

Should you experience any feelings of anxiety, there are people available to speak to at Trans Lifeline, (877) 565-8860.
