I came across this today: www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/people/ross-o-carroll-kelly-i-haven-t-heard-the-word-pronoun-since-i-sat-the-junior-cert-1.2576749For those of you not in the know, "Ross O'Carroll-Kelly" is the name used by the Irish writer, Paul Howard. He's written a whole slew of books narrated in the first person by this character, Ross O'Carroll-Kelly, so as far as a lot of people are concerned, Ross O'Carroll-Kelly is the author of these books. Anyway, good Ross is from a very rich, unbelievably spoiled Dublin family. He himself is a one-time great schoolboy rugby player, a drinker, serial womanizer, a layabout living off his parents' money and basically useless human being. He's also absolutely hilarious. He gives an excellent satirical view of contemporary life in Dublin. It has to be said, though, that after reading a few of his books, I got tired of them. At the end of the day, he portrays people as fundamentally empty and silly and eventually it gets a bit depressing. So I'm not sure how to react to this article. It's perfectly in keeping with Ross himself: totally insensitive, he wouldn't have too much patience for correct pronoun usage. As for Paul Howard, the real man behind the books, I suspect he'd be more sympathetic to NB people.

Had brunch out with my bro-in-law and his partner, they are headed over to Ireland soon, they will be staying in an old castle somewhere.
