What are your thoughts on this topic?
I am always excited to learn more about the solar system, I think it's absolutely fascinating that they are training people to prepare for life on Mars. I never thought this would be attempted in my lifetime!
It does sound scary that it is a one-way trip, you say goodbye to your family and friends forever. I don't think I could do that, as much as I love the galaxy.
Are you supportive or against Mars One's mission? What do you think of the whole thing?

I think it's a lunatic idea, but then again "If we were suppose to fly we would be born with wings" and now look! It kind of speaks of evolution and the expansion of ideas and concepts which intimates that all of creation including each of us is not at all in a constant static state of being as many would assume.

I'm in favor of exploration by our species. I don't think it should be rushed as if anything bad happens, then it could stop any further attempts for quite some time.
And honestly, I think it would be cool to actually make the trip regardless of the difficulties. Just to see so many different things and the experience of it would be quite grand.

It is really only a matter of time until it becomes a necessity to expand to other planets. Earth can only support so many people and we are probably pushing it already.
I am pretty curious so that part of me would like to go. I do think it would get old very quickly though so ya, idk if I would do it. Idk if it will even happen in my lifetime. If i did go though I would probably have a heart attack or something during blastoff...

It's fun to fantasize about. When I was a kid (BC) and the first TV's came out back in the early 1950's they just had little seven inch screens and everything was in black and white only. There weren't many programs at first so there was a lot of test pattern. Then came Buck Rogers in his mock-up cardboard rocket ship with bells, whistles and glowing lights on the cardboard dash. Someone saw that and dreamed big dreams and look where we are now.

BC...? Before Christ? Just how old are you, Auntie Shan?!?
Just reading the description of Orion(?) landing back on Earth, that had withstand the radiation of the Earth's atmosphere - not to mention the heat as it fell back to the Earth... Grown men crying tears of joy as they have made a huge step forward for humanity... that plan for Life on Mars just became one step closer to reality... wow, just absolutely inspiring. The space geek in me is thrilled!
I wonder how many folks still firmly believe that mankind never stepped foot on the moon...?

Or the rabbit on the moon! Hmmm, one of those life mysteries we may never find out. Wonder if the flag is still attached to the Moon after all these years...?
Which reminds me, space stuff, Interstellar with Matthew McConaughey! I need to see it ASAP *flails*

I need to see it ASAP *flails* It seems that when the astronauts photographed the flag it was blowing which gave credence to the conspiracy theory that it was all staged because the moon and space beyond earth is a vacuum and there is no wind in a vacuum. Oops! Then again how do we account for solar wind?

any inertia/wiggling from setting it up would remain for a bit since there is no air to add resistance for it to stop quickly or so I would imagine.

In 1968 the USA was about to win the "race to the moon." There was already talk about space stations, moon bases, and flights to other planets.
That year, futurist and sci-fi genius Arthur Clarke published "2001: A Space Odyssey." In it he imagined an orbiting space station. A space shuttle to the moon. A scientific moon base with mining exploration. Human-like super computers. An advanced space craft capable of a journey to the outer planets (Saturn in the novel; Jupiter in the film).
Clarke's time line for that was just 33 years. Our technology has not completely kept up with his vision. We went to the moon briefly. We have space stations and shuttles and advanced supercomputers. But I think many have lost the quest to explore. To learn. To grow.
We need to go back to the moon. We need to go to Mars. True, we also need to do what we can to make things better here; but the stars are our destiny.
