I debated putting this in spirituality, but fuck that, Paganism is a group of religions even if it's not mainstream.
So even though I've identified as a Pagan since middle school, I've only this winter started reaching out and connecting with my local Pagan community. As part of that I went to my first Pantheacon (the country's largest Pagan convention) this weekend. First off, holy cow, it was so amazing! Secondly, I FOUND MY PEOPLE!
I discovered a local coven called Circle of Cerridwen that bills itself as "radically inclusive progressive spirituality" and they particularly focus on sexual and gender diversity. A whole lot of Paganism is VERY cisheterocentric and I've been craving contact with queer and trans Pagans. I found them. I'm going to have dinner with the coven as part of the first step towards potentially joining and I'm so excited. I feel like I may have found my spiritual home. There's also Rainbow Moon Circles put on once a month by CAYA (Come As You Are) in Oakland that focus on specifically CELEBRATING gender diverse deities. While that's a bit of a drive for me (I'm in the South Bay), I do hope I can attend a few. It'll be nice to see myself reflected in the Divine for once.
There was also a FABULOUS panel called "Gender Diverse Pagans: Hospitality or Inclusivity?" that was super cool! So many trans Pagans sharing their experiences! A few of us got together after the panel and chatted for a bit and exchanged emails. We talked about doing another discussion next year and also an actual ritual which would be SO AMAZING! We also talked a bit about creating transgender Rites of Passage for transition and de-polarizing the standard Coming of Age rituals. So much coolness. So excite. Ermagherd.

One of the coolest things about this forum is our ability to avoid stepping on each others toes on our religious beliefs, which are deep, and allow us to blossom in complete freedom to be ourselves.
Best of wishes for you dear.

that does sound good. i'm not too well axquainted with paganism, but i do know that having a way to connect with the divine is helpful to many.
it's nice to know that you've found people you can connect with. you're much better of than any male assigned trans or gay bottom viking.

Like Taka, I don't know much about Paganism.
Wow, I would love to join in the celebration of gender diverse deities. I think it would be totally cool to put together a list of gender diverse deities and sticky it for curious wandering folks.

Wow this is very educating for me, perhaps you'll keep us abreast (no pun intended) of how it pans out as it would be interesting to read about the things you learn along the way. No one here is going to criticize you in amy way either. BTW - did you just coin a new word? "cisheterocentric" That's a new one for me!

I think I've seen it on Tumblr. If not, I've definitely seen it separately as ciscentrism and heterocentrism.
I'm going to a CoC ritual this Saturday. I'll update you all on how things go with the group.
It would be great to put together a gender diverse deity list. Off the top of my head, I know Dionysos has transfeminine tendencies and Ardhanarishvara (literally, the Lord who is Half Woman) is a deity that's split down the middle, half Shiva, half Parvati. There's also a recently "birthed" set of specifically transgender deities (Google All-Soul, All-Body, All-Love, All-Power: A TransMythology - the book has very NSFW bits to it, and it's really a beautiful mythos). They include Panhyle (a trans man), Panpsyche (a trans woman), Paneros (a metagender, or nongendered, person) and Pancrates (a pangender person). There's going to be a second book that introduces Paneris (a genderfluid person) and Panprosdexia (an agender and asexual deity).

Interesting, seems like there's enough out there to boggle one's imagination.

most deities seem to me like reflections and aspects of the human soul. with enough trans people meeting openly, there will be known trans deities.

in some inuit mythology, the first humans seem to have been male. so when one of them suddenly became pregnant, he had to be turned into a woman in order to survive the ordeal.
and if you ask plato, it seems we'd all be better off as hermaphrodites.
the vikings were weird enough that they gave odin alone the privilege of being respected despite a somewhat trans nature (he was allowed to perform female magic), while loki was dissed for his adventures in female form.
trans seems to have always existed. it's a part of humanity just as much as the cis, and all societies have known. but most have also been stupid enough to try to control, and eliminate uncontrollable elements.
mythologies still speak of a common knowledge though.

In aboriginal tribes here and in South America those types have always been made the tribal shaman because it was believed that they had mystical powers and were more in touch with the forces of nature.

that's the same for all arctic indigenous peoples.
some ancestor of yours may have been a shaman, and less cishetero than most. not that we'll ever know, but it's a fascinating thought.
some places, the tradition still lives. particularly in siberia, as buddhism never stated that shamanism is against some god's will.

There's also Aphrodite Urania, a form of Aphrodite which grew a beard to attract a man-loving man (I forget who) and who was a patron of male homosexual love. Baphomet is an interesting character – lord of filth and the profane typically depicted with breasts, penis, and vulva (though sometimes with other combinations) who very strongly defies any attempts at categorization. Yes, Odin practiced seidr, the magic of women and sometimes gender variant (known then as ergi) men.

And then there's Avalokiteshvara/Kuan Yin/Kannon, who is typically depicted as male under the first name and female under the latter two names despite being the same Boddhisattva.
