Lack of Compromise Cited as LGBT Rights Bill Dies in Indiana

David Long, president pro tem of Indiana's Senate, promised another attempt to extend nondiscrimination protections to LGBT Hoosiers next year.

Declaring there was "no need" to have a debate or vote on the issue of civil rights protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Hoosiers, David Long Tuesday killed what's come to be known as the "deeply flawed" Senate Bill 344.

I'm a bit confused. We're supposed to compromise with people who don't want us to have any rights at all? How exactly does that work? I think what it amounts to is, "We'll respect your rights unless we can find a reason not to, which we can."
