Really a great article Foxglove. Now I really hope they truly believe it. I am so skeptical of a forked tounge. There is always hope though.

I live near a University/College town. In the land of the windchill factor. I see and hear the talk from these young people. I hear them more than I hear people who have something negative to say. You can think that not everyone speaks their minds, but that's just what the young people do in comparison. So probably more outspoken, plus getting their opinions out there without too much kickback. I hardly notice anymore, the androgynous look so many of them have. I do notice it more in older people, though. Silent outspokenness? I don't know. There have been several attempts to start discussion groups or just groups for older trans people here. Nothing comes from them. Probably because the older people tend to be the less desirable of cis and are just good old bigots to be bigots kind of a crowd. I can see them protesting any group meetings of any sort that don't agree with their bigot-ism, at least we didn't have another election with Bachmann signs. (Just waiting for the explosion of measles around here thanks to Bachmanns idiotic claims that the MMR vaccinations causes autism) It seems that the younger people have just gravitated towards others and it's informal gatherings for them. There is a huge difference in politics as well from the younger to older. Much more liberal and outspoken as well. In the last couple years, I've run across a couple dozen older androgynous types, same for nearing or have full transitions, there are some I can't tell, to be sure. But when it comes to the younger people, college age, it becomes harder to tell if a full transition is in progress or nearing it, and clearly those most likely NB by their androgynous looks along with things I over hear, I have no idea, lots, way more kinda lots. Seems like this has grown quite a bit each year for the last few, but it was still noticeable with the younger people six years ago when I moved to this area. It's weird, the Apocalypse didn't happen and the Gates of Hell never showed up. Maybe next year *Oh, and they have added new classes, new labs, equipment at the University that covers more subjects around biological and brain kinda stuff. State of the art stuff. *Maybe I can be a lab rat closer to home... Ativan

I live near a University/College town. In the land of the windchill factor. I see and hear the talk from these young people. . . This is the kind of thing you frequently hear about young people. On the other hand, you hear a lot about how badly LGBT kids are bullied in secondary schools. It's hard to know what to think. I myself tend to draw the conclusion that while they're still teens in secondary school, they can be pretty bad. But once they're a bit older, they get some sense in their heads and they loosen up. Maybe that's it. I really don't know. But it's for sure that there are lots of signs that this new generation are open to a lot more things than their elders.

High school is the breeding grounds for bigots who never grew out of being bullies. Besides, if you want to be able to go to college parties and not be the first person to get punched... That bullying is bad around here in the secondary school system, but they are working on it, actually doing something about it.

High school is the breeding grounds for bigots who never grew out of being bullies. I've been thinking about this. Maybe lots of bigots and bullies don't make it to the university. They get weeded out. So things are better at university level. Generally speaking, you'd think somebody would need at least a bit of cop-on to get to the university.

Unfortunately, there are the fraternities and sororities. You can find them in the past of some bigots. But you can also find them in some of the best there are. So I think it's the time of maturity for many people. The bullies mature into bigots. They were there, they just didn't learn enough about what is right and what is wrong. The maturity part they skipped out on. Same as how they became bullies to start with. It is a good thing that many of them do outgrow it and become who they can be. Instead of putting others down to give that same impression, that they are somebody. They just missed the point, didn't learn enough I suppose. They don't know they are nobodies.

The world is changing, and more quickly than I perceived. The youngest members of our office and my kids generation don't seem to care a whole lot about labels. They seem to be far more focused on the individual, not the taxonomy. This is a good thing.
Safe travels
