I went snorkeling yesterday for the first time at Watermans Bay, I got to try out my GoPro Hero 2 underwater and filmed some cute fish. The whole experience was so peaceful and relaxing. I want to keep doing it, it will become a hobby for sure!

How beautiful! I love snorkeling too, it's magical. Lucky you, living in a place like that.

I am very blessed to live in a place where the coast is an hour or so drive away. Even more blessed to have my father take me on a boat trip to Rottnest Island. I was at Rottnest Island the last two days with my Dad. I explored Thomson Bay the first day and Parakeet Bay the second day Loved it!

That is truly beautiful. Is the reef healthy? I spent ten days on Isla Mujeres off the Yucatan in November and bleaching events have decimated much of the reef. Lots of life, but few living, growing coral heads. Made me sad.

The reef is probably healthy. I didn't see much coral life though. It may not have been frequent in the shallow areas I explored via snorkelling. However, I did see a person's Youtube video where they explored the underwater caves in Porpoise Bay of Rottnest Island. They went scuba-diving and found a wide variety of fish and coral life recently in August 2015. Bleaching events are awful, the same has already happened to parts of the Great Barrier Reef. I hope to visit the Great Barrier Reef before it worsens any further. It is such a shame to think that the beautiful coral life wasting away, while some can recover, those that do not become damaged or die and take many years or decades for the reef to repair itself. While coral death may be inevitable after events of bleaching, maybe something even more beautiful will be reborn in its place, like a phoenix rising from the ashes... one can only hope.
