I have an awful one, and I'm growing my hair out so that I can part it down the middle and hide it. I really don't want that kind of hairstyle, though. I want something more like this: the girl on the left. I can feel the tiniest, softest hair there, so that makes me think the follicles aren't dead. Would adding finasteride really stimulate terminal hair growth there? My hair is one my biggest dysphoria triggers. If I can't have a nice pixie style cut then I'll probably end up looking like Laura Jane Grace. I've had people ask me if I've considered wearing a wig, and for me, that would be a last resort. Most of the wigs I've seen I don't like. I would have to save up to buy one of the real hair ones.

Technically, things like finasteride and rogaine aren't going to do much of anything for a receding hairline. They do help a lot with balding on the crown though. But, some people have had luck with it helping them on a receding hairline. I figure it can't hurt to try. I usually use equate brand instead of rogaine and I do put a tad around the front. Not sure if it works that great, but I haven't lost any more up front, so...

I had quite impressive success with estrogen/AA therapy alone and 2 months ago added Dutasteride (0.5mg every other day) to HRT regime. I had no balding or thinning before (blessed be our family genes... almost no MPB, but we start turn grey in mid 20-ties), but there was some slight receding in temples (I have some pics dating 20 months back). Now, if I pull my hair back, the hairline is very much into acceptable female range - it is not exactly reversed U, but rather [_] but my mom has the same type and I have seen plenty of ciswomen with the same type. Besides, the edges are becoming smoother all the time and I think it is the dutasteride which works. P.S. I also looked into microneedle rollers (I had never heard them before reading Your post, Julie) and promptly ordered one from ebay .

So, I've been on Spiro and Estradiol for two months now. I just checked the mirror, and I have little blond hairs growing in my receding hairline. Not tiny fuzz, but hairs I can see in the light. Will they darken or thicken any?

I tried all that stuff and it works to some extent but it has to be used continuously or the subject regresses rather rapidly to the point they were when they started, therefore having dealt with that reality and my genetic propensity for receding hairline and MPB I said to hell with it and wear my baseball caps when I go outside. If I was a serious MtF I would eventually consider a buzz cut and investing in several really nice human hair wigs and factor in the cost of rotating them to the hair stylist for proper treatment as necessary.

I sent a message to my doctor asking if he could add a lose dose of Finasteride to my regimen. I have never seen hair growth in my hairline as long as it's been receded until I started HRT. It's seriously growing back in, albeit fine and blonde, so I can only assume Finasteride will help accelerate that. They say hairline can't grow back in, but clearly it can, depending on how long it's been there. If I can grow that back in to some degree then I won't have to part it down the middle. That kind of style isn't very flattering to my face.
I really think my mild "47, XXY" condition plays a part here. I'm going to try to get a photo of how it looks now, and then take another photo a month from now to show any differences.

I took it, not that I have a receding hairline, in fact it's good already, maybe in between girly and young boyish, maybe but it was recommended at the time. My hair started to grow across my temples into my eyebrows I a very girlish pattern.
I stopped taking it and it returned to normal for me, even tho I had very very low t levels.
If I were you I would try it for 8 months and see what happens. But you have to make up your own mind of course.

Finasteride helps but it takes up to a year for significant results. What it does do is treat the cause of male pattern balding where Minoxidil is a vasodilator and only stimulates growth. Combine the two plus a 1 mm microneedle roller and, in my case, the amount of hair on the crown and at the hairline has more than doubled over a two year period, with the temples continuing to fill in. It is finally starting to grow out everywhere from the finer shorter hair into something like what I had a few decades ago. I'm fine with having to maintain some level of treatment essentially forever. It is cheap, and I very much like having my own hair. Fair Winds, Julie From what I can tell it's working for you Julie!

Fair Winds, Julie fin definitely works. and yeah, things thin out once you go off it for a while. I've been out for about 6 months and it seems like mine is getting steadily thinner. Trying to slow it down with minoxidil, but not sure yet how much that is actually helping.

OK first off slow down and really look at other girls hairlines. Some have really high foreheads, some the hairline is almost down to their eyebrows. Some have more of an "M" shaped hairline. Some have parts that is half as wide as a finger. Some you can't even see the scalp. Some have like an empty spot at the very beginning of the part. Now let me tell you something too. Dysphoria can effect this and what you see of it. If you do have HD TV, I love it because it shows all the wrinkles, the freckels the thin parts of hair and so on. OK so normal shedding is somewhere between 60 to 100 hairs a day. Usually when you wash it. This is totally normal. You will notice it a lot more with longer hair than you will with shorter hair. The hair shaft usually survives for seven years or so. Again if you have HI DEF TV you can see women's hair and all the little shorter hairs that seem to be out of place. Yeah some of it is breakage but most of it is newer hair shafts. I have those little hairs myself. The hairline is kind of like the "whipping post" in that that is where the comb or brush first starts. I have had lon hair all my life and I always have had those little hairs on top at the front of the hiarline that are shorter than the others. Hell every woman does. Plus follicles will go inactive every now and then. Stress may lead to hair loss. Diet can lead to hair loss. You are young or I assume you are from your picture in another part. The best thing that I have found is eating a lot of fish especially cold water fish like Cod Pollock or Salmon so all this time everyon hating on Mickey D's go have the Filet O' Fish. Saw Palmetto is really good too. Saw palmetto is a natural anti androgen and is good for your prostate which unfortunately we have. But it is alos good for the hair too. I take 6 450 MG capsules every morning and have since I was in my thirties and worried about possible MPB. Just remember that the longer it gets, the heavier it gets. The heavier it gets the more strss it puts on the haishaft and the follicals. If you see a woman with butt length hair she will usually have a lot of stray shorties and the part unless she parts it in different places at different times will have a lot wider part and you will see more of her scalp. Coloring also colors the scalp. Tanning will also make hte scalp darker if you have darker hair. But usually darker hair and fairer skin will seem like the hair is thinner. OMG I get a little obsessive and am constanly checking my hair line and the crown. Sometimes OMG it loioks like my crown is thinning then I go looking covertly at women that have similar length and texture as me and it is more normal than not. Same way with parting in the middle. Sometimes it seems like, "Damn I'm losing my hair" but parting it in one place constantly when it is long and heavey is not really good. Or this is my experience anyway. Then I look at other women at it ain't so bad after all. from the top I see no thinning at all. Illuminess, just remember that as women and especially transwomen, our hair truly is our glory. I am so obssessive that I count the hairs that I shed in the shower when I wash it and it is actually lower than the 60 to 100 hairs per day. That is the only time I lose hairs. My Ex used to use my brush and her hair was way more in it than mine. But HRT should help a lot. Genetics so take a look at your grandfathers on both sides. Hell My Ex's Granmother had thinner hair than I have ever seen. My shrink, her receptionist, I have thicker hair than she does and we are only about 7 years apart. And I am so worried about losing my hair? Yes I am. That is why I look a lot closer at women's hair lines, thckness, parts and so on. Kind of like the finger ratio thing. BTW I couldn,t access either one of those links. But exaclty how bad do you think your hairline is?
