Been on HRT a long time now and since my mom lost one breast to cancer I have decided on this technique early next month over the usual breast crushing and bruising that goes on with mammography. Two visits six months apart will give a good baseline, it's totally painless Laura is going with me for her second check, this will be my first. I'm kind of apprehensive (blush) just because the two sisters that run this place are such little dolls and I'm, well....yaknow just me.... brasthermography.com/locations/issaquah-wa/

Several years ago I underwent a bi-lateral orchiectomy (surgical castration) resulting from a condition most likely brought on by excessive Agent Orange contamination in SE Asia. I was given female hormones as a follow-up therapy to ensure that some precancerous thing didn't crop back up again, it was so appealing that I remained on female HRT. Some time several years later after I was well ensconced in the VA medical system, I decided to de-transition, don't ask me why, it was a big mistake on my part! Initially the VA endocrinologist prescribed weekly injectable testosterone which is chemically manufactured, extremely harsh and caused me severe mood swings. I sought an alternative and later saw a Naturopathic doctor who injected testosterone pellets, eight total looking like grains of rice. My body eventually rejected them as they erupted through the skin beyond where they went in via what appeared to be a boil and I decided that I was being stupid and went back on feminizing HRT. I had fallen through the endocrine department's cracks so after a few years of self medicating and a nasty DVT experience I was referred back to VA endocrinology. Knowing my history they agreed to put me on Climara patches rather than leaving me with no hormonal base.
From a genetic background perspective I considered how my mother had suffered a radical mastectomy due to breast cancer and my younger sister having similar potential breast problems and fibroids. Realizing that born men can have breast cancer and having read the testimony of actor Richard Roundtree I am opting to be pro-active and create a base line against which any future changes if any can be measured. To be quite honest though it would seem that the threat of breast cancer in trans women is extremely minimal and I often wonder how many cis women's breasts have been erroneously removed over a false positive reading.

Very insightful, thank you for sharing your experiences, Auntie Shan
Transguys and non-binary folks who have top surgery do still need to check their chest for lumps or have yearly ultrasound of the chest for any abnormalities. At the very least, my endo stresses that one should.
The Climara patches sound interesting - I would prefer patches over injections Maybe that may be an option I can look into with my endo after bottom surgery.

I've tried everything and it seems like the transdermal patches are the safest, painless and most constant hormonal delivery system so far with no mood swings.

Is it as effective as a mammogram? I know there not foolproof but just never heard about the other one before, not that I needed to know about it before though either lol.

I have had two through the VA system. One before they would let me start HRT because I was already developed, girl said I had nice tissue, and the other last Nov. Those of us who are DES sons have to pay particular attention whether we transition or not because DES is a know risk to us for breast cancer.

Got the mammaries thermographically photographed today. The darling young woman that did it was rather quiet and reticent initially until I touched her hair and complemented her on the beautiful highlights. Once I got stripped down to my waist she became really chatty and it was a fun session, both she and her equally pretty sis gave me a big hug when I left. Guess there is a common sisterhood among all who have boobs.
