It's a long story. Basically I am a US citizen born abroad. I have no contact with my father (and my mother is dead). The paper I have saying I am a US citizen is not good enough for me to change my name with Social Security. I have changed it with the state, banks, the court, etc. Since I can't change my name with Social Security I am stuck. I can't change my legal name at work therefor I can't change my legal name with my medical insurance. I hate it. Everytime I get a prescription there's that old name.
Theoretically the process for getting the correct birth paperwork is fairly simple. You fill out a form, supply what documentation you have, mail a check and notarized letter. That's the theory anyway. I've been trying to change my name now for something like 9 months? It takes time for the mail to go. Weeks for them to process it and then they keep sending it back with these unclear notes about why my paperwork is wrong. There is no contact name, phone number, email, or sense there is a human involved in the process. Until the last time when I got a letter saying they'd located my records. It was a real letter signed by a real person. I had to go through a whole new process sending in forms and getting an affidavit stating there was paperwork I didn't have. It was worrisome sending in the only original citizenship paper I had (of course I made copies) so this time I sent it with a return receipt request. This means I know they got it and I know when and who. They got it on October 22nd. When I left for my vacation last week, I hadn't gotten anything back. Today I arrived home and there is an envelope waiting for me. I am actually scared to open it which is stupid.
Ok, here goes nothing, I am going to open the envelope.
I got it!!!!!!!!!! I can finally go and finish this process and change my name!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(rofl) (rofl)
errr... I might be a bit excited
