I have had long hair since I was 16. In a previous job I was forced to wear it tied back. In my current job, I can wear it down, which I prefer.
The last week or so I have been wearing it tied back because of the heat. Today I had to go into the office, and wore it tied back, but my partner plaited the pony tail for me.
First time at the office with an outright feminine hair style, it was great, nobody said anything or reacted oddly.

I love my long hair and I love it when my partner does a french braid for me. I also do a high pony-tail on top my head for my morning yoga. Alas, it's thinning now but I guess there is still a lot of it for a 60 year old!

I had long hair most of my life, though I cut it a number of times for work.
It's funny how people don't notice a lot of things. I've varied my presentation quite a lot and while people did notice and comment if I did something major like cut my hair short, most other things I did went without comment at least.

Alas, it's thinning now but I guess there is still a lot of it for a 60 year old! Mine is thinning on top now, which bothers me. It could be worse though, a lot of my dad’s family were very grey and balding by their 40s, where I still have some coloured hair, and only just starting to thin in my 50s.
It is really annoying that hair I don’t like or want continues to grow rampant!

Yep, a lot of people noticed when I returned after lock down with painted nails - apart from weird looks from 2 people, the reaction was positive. But most other changes seem to have gone uncommented, which is also good, I interpret it as folks use accept it as normal.

My family has lots of various balding going on in it, but I'm not losing it at least not noticeably and I am in my early 70's. Making sure you are eating properly is a big deal when it comes to balding, some of it just can't be helped but most of it is just not getting the proper minerals and vitamins play a big part in keeping your hair. But this goes for everything as you grow old and don't ever think you have another ten years or more to prevent anything, what you do in your thisties is going to show up in your fifties and what you do in your fifties is going to show up in your seventies. You really have to watch your zinc intake and get enough, but zinc is dependent on copper and vice versa, copper really helps to stop[ grey hair but you can't over do it either, to much is very bad for you and taking a bunch is not going to help with the grey, its a long term thing and copper rich foods go a long ways, but really keep an eye on essential minerals, some depending on where you are matter a lot because they aren't just evenly dispersed in the world or even in a country. Some are sensitive in that too much is worse than not enough, but just some is way better than none. Use mild soap to wash your hair and you usually don't have to wash it more than a couple times a week, go easy on conditioner as well but using a good natural brand really helps, dry tangled hair gets pulled out if you brush it hard and brushing or combing wet hair is really hard on it, I never use a hair dryer to blow it dry except without the heat, that heat just drys the hair to much and burns up the natural oils so really you are just killing it off, really it only takes less than an hour to just let it dry and usually far less time and I have long hair and it takes less than a half hour if I towel dry it by just gently wrapping it for a bit and never ever do the aggressive towel thing, wrap the hair a bit and squeeze it, no pulling, the towel soaks up the hair just was much as if you are aggressive on it. Tha same thing goes for just taking a shower, pat the water off and don't rub the crap out of the skin, you just washed away all the dead cells anyways so why are you rubbing off good ones? just think it through and eat right and your skin and hair will be just fine. Having long hair done in any style is not a male female thing, its simply long hair and if anyone thinks differently, then they have a problem with probably much more than hair length.

**Thanks @ativan this is good advice. Stopping using a hairdryer and allowing my hair to dry naturally and brushing it was revolutionary for me. I made some bad choices with hair care in my 30s and early 40s though and as a consequence my hair is probably thinner now (just turned 50) than it would otherwise be. Since I came out properly, I stopped combing my hair and now always brush it. Normally I would brush it after towelling it dry. However, since reading your post (and I had heard this elsewhere) I decided to try out letting it dry before brushing and actually it did help. Has anyone considered having a hair transplant or has had/ is having one? Could anyone please share advice? (eg, best places / costs / what to do in preparation, etc) I have a good head of hair for my age (just turned 50) and have avoided going grey so far (am blonde) but I have receded a bit and it is the cause of a lot of anxiety/ dysphoria as I'm quite strongly female identifying. I would love to tie my hair back but it upsets me to see my hair line. Thanks in advance for any advice, lovelies! Kimmy x

I considered it, but I've never had very much hair on the back of my head for some reason that they could move to the front.
I find having long bangs of some kind covers my hairline pretty well even if I tie my hair back.

Don't be under the impression that your hairline is a sign of feminine or masculine, lots of women have receding hairlines as well as it becoming just sparse or thin. Again, a lot of it has to do with your diet. sure there is pattern baldness but it is wrong to decide that it is just male baldness, but if it is thinning, think about what you eat. Just like with everything in life, you are what you eat, poor diet is the real number one killer of everything and then it is disease, and most of that is from a poor diet. I most certainly is worth the time and effort to learn how your body needs different things as you age and that you can't live and eat like a teenager anymore. Sugar is the absolute worst thing for you, it is the number one thing that cancer cells live on, and the older you get the more you can count on vitamins and minerals to keep you healthy, just as much as exercise, which is vital to having good hair growth as well. Adjust, adapt, overcome.

Thanks, so I guess you mean tying your hair at the back/sides and not the front (ie, fringe remains over hairline)?

Thanks for the encouraging advice! While there's always room for improvement I would say my diet is pretty good. I am vegetarian, eat majority organic food, plenty of fruit and vegetables, drink plenty of filtered water every day, very low in sugar diet (only sugars are from fructose, honey, alcohol and I occasionally treat myself to ice cream, but not often). I also make sure to get plenty of Vitamin C as it's good for skin and hair (Kiwi fruits, etc). I am mostly very comfortable in my own skin and enjoy feeling feminine (I'm slim). It suits me very well, clothes fitting well and I get lots of compliments from friends and colleagues but my hair line lets it all down and really makes me feel upset. It's not balding, just receded. I live in London and hate it when the wind blows my hair back when at tube stations. A friend (AFAB female) recently compared me to Brian Eno in his Roxy Music days. I could see the resemblance but it made me feel down.

Just want to add, to say thanks to everyone for being welcoming and the supportive advice. I'm new here. Hope I didn't sound too negative or ungrateful! On the whole embracing my feminine side (publicly) has been a really positive step for me and I feel I'm much more relaxed, empathic, gentle and caring towards towards others and myself as a consequence, hair anxieties notwithstanding. :-)

Exactly. I was really nervous when I first tried bangs, but I'm really glad I did.

I've noticed on some women that they have plastered hair down on the skin where its receding, how they do this I have no idea but it looks pretty nice, at least to me it does. Wear a hat for those windy days and times, easy enough to get something soft and floppy that you can fold and put away. I do this on windy days and its just a swamp hat, works well and fits me pretty good anyways. But there are just so many options for hair out there and the receding feminine hairline is not a thing like it used to bem people are embracing it depending on how it is dealt with. I have noticed that there are far less men doing that stupid looking combover, I mean do they really think its not noticeable all that scalp showing through? But there are options to regrow hair and to replace it and other ways of dealing with it and receding is just not looked down on like it was in the past when people were expected to have perfect hair, those republican haircuts and styles.... And wigs and pieces are always an option, better ones don't look as fake as they used to.
