Here's an interesting link to maps and state by state rankings and laws or lack of laws for the US. The ranking by state tells the story of where in the country there is a lack and sometimes even a negative lack of equality. LGBT Equality Maps

The maps for the states that are expected to be republican and democrat can be found if you google 538, it's Nate Silvers site with polls and stuff. There are pockets of dems in the south there, surprising that they actually stretch even to Louisiana, but it's TX that has a big ol chunk of blue now. Check it out, the site has a few different things going on, so look over the google response to find what you want, it's a good site.

Not surprised my state (Vermont) has a good ranking. Although sometimes you wouldn't know it with the amount of times my friend has been harassed on the street for "looking trans". But the laws are sound. It's how I was able to get Top Surgery so easily. SSDI covers gender affirming surgeries. When I found that out I was so excited. The people themselves may suck on on an individual level, but the gov't seems to be on track.

It’s good to see some areas where people have a certain amount of protection and access to the right services such as surgery etc. I was surprised that it isn’t better but hopefully things are moving in the right direction. Even if there are laws in place, people can still think it’s ok to mistreat, discriminate and even persecute people, however it does allow a way for this behaviour to be stamped out. I dread to think what the UK is like. I haven’t looked into it yet but I know some areas are NOT very diverse. So on that basis.....I’m moving to VERMONT lol.

But the laws are sound. It's how I was able to get Top Surgery so easily. SSDI covers gender affirming surgeries. When I found that out I was so excited. The people themselves may suck on on an individual level, but the gov't seems to be on track. Don't know about there, because a lot of it is with medicaid and that varies a lot, but so many things have been covered for me. I have a case manager who gets the things done that I have difficulties with getting done, I can do them, I just space them off pretty easy. So all the, and I mean all, of the programs available to me are looked into and she takes care of getting them for me, a nightmare if I tried to and it wouldn't get done. There is likely a lot of stuff that they don't just dump on you that you qualify for, and they don't do it because it can be overwhelming and it does no good in getting you to the right thing. I have a drastically reduced rent in a decent building, it's all old people, 55+, but disabled qualify as well, I get both of those. I get electricity helped with, food stamps that I forget about all the time, and I'm setting up therapy weekly with transportation and the case manager is taking care of it so that it is the same time and day of week, I won't space it out. But there is also waivers for a bunch of stuff that I don't need, so don't use, the things are almost endless. The states in a lot of cases realize that by getting ahead of it all, they save money, just like the mental health benefits, it's way cheaper for them to give those to me than to deal with the aftermath of not getting the help I need. It costs them a ton of money if I just was to off myself, so all in all, getting ahead of most everything for people saves a lot of money. Check into county programs, state programs, city programs, get creative in google searches and if you get a good case manager, they will be your guide through all of so that you don't get lost in it. Everyone who reads this should check out what there is, you don't have to be on the bottom of the heap to get them, they are there to keep you from being on the bottom. There are a lot of state paid things even if you are working, and in most cases people are, but they can't afford the high costs and if the state doesn't step in, then you lose and become more costly to the state. This is exactly the kind of reasons that there is medicaid, it isn't an entitlement, it isn't giving away your tax dollars, its the means to an end so that your tax dollars are spent wisely. People breaking down can cost society in so many ways and nobody wants that except the republicans because their owners think it is spending their money when it isn't, not with the tax cut they got....
