Now I don’t mean something as extreme as with the police but if you have a story regarding this and want to share it, that’s fine too. I realise that sometimes experiences like this could potentially be upsetting or distressing to discuss and please don’t feel you have to share such experiences. It could be a funny story or one that was difficult. Only share what you’re comfortable with sharing. If you feel it helps to share a story then that’s the main aim of this post. Apologies if this topic has been discussed before....
A common one for me all my life is public toilets. As a teenager I remember going into the girls loos in my local town. The fashion for men back then was baggy jeans, baggy t shirt and a cap. Girls would tend to wear leggings and a blouse or something. So there I was, walked into the girls toilets with the full guy gear on and this lady (I’d say in her 40’s) looked at me and said in a stern voice, what business have you got coming in here? The next thing I know she told her husband who was outside and he started shouting in! Get out of there, I’ll report you etc etc. You get yourself out here now and explain’. Probably the easiest thing to do at that point is tell them I was a girl but the thought didn’t even cross my mind and wanted to carry on with the ‘I m a guy in the wrong toilets’ scenario. Thankfully they disappeared off whilst I waited abit worried in the cubicle for a while.
Another time - of course if I’m going to express myself as a guy, then that alone can bring on trouble. In my early 20’s I lived on an estate that had a very bad reputation....one of the worst in the UK, although I was never naughty myself. I remember a gang of guys ‘20 odd’ around my age. As I walked past one of them shouted ‘what you looking at’ (I’ve written it in a polite way lol). Why on earth did I have to open my mouth and pretend I was all tough. This was a real stupid thing to do I know. So I said something back and the next thing I know this gang of guys were after me and throwing glass bottles. I literally got around the corner and ran the speed of light. Was shaken up but felt all tough that I had somehow stood up the these guys lol how stupid of me though.
