Bought this drone on Amazon, haven't got it yet, should be here by tues, the 20th of March. For a relatively cheap drone, it does a lot of the stuff more expensive ones do. Lottsa vids on YouTube, I've been watching them, some crashes, some tips on flying them. But this one came up a bit ago, high winds (sort of) and unbalanced props it looks like, might be the wind. The effect is called jello, the vid looks like it is, either that or the ground there is really weird and you can only see it from above. West Perth it says... never been there but it looks pretty nice...

Does it have to be in line of sight to maintain control?

No line of sight needed, you have the camera monitor to see where you are, GPS coordinates, and distance and height, might have compass direction. You can fly it far enough to not be able to see it, so setting the LED's on the bottom 'feet' can help you see it.
Nope, thats Australia all right, watch the beginning of the video, identifies it as Australian for sure.

Nope, it's not in Florida Definitely in Perth, WA! That's pretty cool! I'd love to fly a drone! Let me know how you go and feel free to share any footage!

Found it, here's the parking lot it took off from and they are standing just north of it. Southwest of Perth on the map, but here it is on Google maps www.google.com/maps/@-32.084268,115.7566761,119m/data=!3m1!1e3 -32.084268,115.7566761 are the coordinates, takes you right into the parking lot. Older satellite view, but if you go into 3D and tilt it a bunch and look pretty much north you can see the shipyard cranes and the tall white building that you see in the video. I need something better to do today...

Got it and read the instructions that says to not fly indoors. I nearly killed the fridge the first go around. The second one was aborted as it suddenly went for my legs. But it did make it hover for a couple minutes there, about a foot off the carpet.

I've seen the series of cuts running up a persons arm when it attacked. Sharp props, and they are really fast. And that guy got the cuts when he was messing with it while it was idling. He uses these really soft props now. I'm leaning towards the carbon fiber ones, quieter, a little more efficient, and just cool to have. But deadly wicked sharp. Even idling you can hardly see the props. But the fridge is all the smarter to not mess with it again.

Took it out to a place that looked good on Google Maps, but turned out to be solid brush about 8 ft high that wen forever, and wouldn't you know, a high tension power line right there as well. Those create havoc with the control, can cause a crash, but I tried it anyways, got it hovering and it turned around and then I flew it away down the road and then went the other way, except that way had the power line crossing over the road, and I lost control, almost had it back, but it flew out into the brush. I did hear it crash, the props cutting little branches, but I coundn't see it from the road even though it was ten feet above the ground, decided it went down in the branches or something. Then I remembered the GPS readouts on the controller, it had the last position of the quad, so I just had to walk up and down the road to get centered and then go clawing my way through the brush, thick stuff and a couple feet of snow still, all slushy on the bottom of course, wet feet two steps in. So I tried getting closer, but lost my bearings in the brush, and ended up walking way to far out into the brush, now the killer brush from hell in the slushy snow... I did get used to the GPS signals and was right on top of it before I saw it, but the brush was so thick there I had to find a way around it, thirty feet from the road, I must have gone a hundred before I turned around... But I got it, it wasn't broken anywhere I could see and headed for the road, which now after all that was easy until I tried to climb back up the embankment. Old dead grass on the side that was pretty much as straight up as you can get and it was like that for as far as I could see, and I was tired of the snow packed slush in my shoes anyways. Almost got to the top, stuff in both hands, using clumps of snow as footholds, and then went down hard and sure enough, the only solid piece of ice anywhere and I used my knee to stop myself on it, yah saw stars and tunnel vision from that one, but decided that I wasn't ever going to get out of there unless I climbed out, nobody would see me down at the bottom, so that pissed me off enough to get up to the top in less steps than the first try. I was so worn out by this time that I had to lay on the road for maybe a half hour before I wanted to get up and walk on my throbbing knee. So a couple miles out and had to stop every twenty feet or so and let the knee rest before I could go again, I suppose that looked odd going through town. But I did fly it for a while and got used to it somewhat, the GPS hovering mode is really stable despite the power lines. I've looked for a better spot, but getting into street view, there are those lines wherever there is a good place and the one good place is in line with an airport a mile or so away, not a good choice. So it looks like the football field or the baseball diamond at the high school, even the parking lot there has a power line through the middle of it. There is one between the two fields, I think I can work around that, just fly off in the other direction first to get away and then get altitude and they won't affect it, until I have to bring it back in to land, but there's ways of doing that which just might work, otherwise it's search and rescue time again. First time out, not bad I'd say...

Found this again, was posting on the weight in thread, kinda weird if you think about it, pretty much unrelated. I've been going higher and farther everytime I fly, which isn't much, to windy on weekends and I can only use the ballpark then. I have some from on the trail, not much, all trees along most of it and what isn't trees is watery marsh full of ice water. But that's starting to recede back to summer dry, so did go back a ways along a creek that I can't see from the trail. Got some high up stuff, but I was in pretty much the flight path for landings at the local airport, a patch of land that somebody mowed one day and then decided it would make a good airport, so the town gives them money so they can say 'see, we gotta airport...' if anyone ever asks them. I have to sit down and edit the vids and then post them on YouTube or somewhere odd like Imgur, I think they do vids, probably YouTube. I have no idea what I'm doing with them, the last time I goofed around with vids, it was such a hassle and hard to get past the beginning and they still looked bad, and I never tried that again, not much anyways, don't really know if I did or not. But I'll have to take a windy rainy day and just sit down and figure it out, it can't be that hard, some of the stuff I see people put on YouTube thinking it is like an informational vid just so blow it that you know they are better off doing something else, but watch, I'll look bad as well...
