Some thoughts tonight on gender, the spiritual aspect, my identity
within its spectrum, and how to proceed in educating society:
Firstly, I have always found androgyny (the synergy between Masculine and Feminine energy as it influences one's sense of Selfness) to inhabit and express through a plane of spirituality that is beyond the dualistic and the material.
I understand myself as being sort of on the Female side of Androgyne. I feel connected to that androgynous realm, but simultaneously I still have a stronger, innate sense of gender that is Female. I feel safe and at home in that energy and through my Self expression while exclusively masculine things (aesthetic, pronouns, social role, and energy) make me feel imbalanced, disharmonious and conclusively melancholic.
Many see gender as being simply a social construct, but that's only a part of the experience.
In my understanding, gender is threefold:
a) it's hard-wired in our neurology no matter
which direction one develops physiologically,
b) it is a soul/spiritual awareness of Self, and finally,
c) the social experience/construct.
The only way any human being can "escape" gender is by doing so consciously, by disassociating oneself from the spectrum through conscious intent due to their unique environments and social experiences that inform and reinforce how they relate to the world, to society, and to themselves. These identities are what we call "non-binary", "agender", "nutrois", and in some cases "genderqueer" (but not exclusively).
To clarify, I'm not saying these identities are invalid or that they shouldn't be included under the trans umbrella. I'm saying that through the lens of logic and reason — by way of understanding the polar/dualistic nature of gender in Nature and neurology — any identity expression that is outside of that spectrum is beyond its quiddity and semblance. It's outside of gender, and I think that rightfully qualifies as equally being transcendent of it. No matter how we identify it is still valid and makes us all wonderfully unique and beautiful.
As someone who has avidly studied psychology and sociology, I find the matter of gender very fascinating.
The occultist Aleister Crowley said, "The Soul is beyond Male and Female as it is beyond Life and Death." I think this perfectly expresses how, for many of us, our sense of gender extends beyond our neurological wiring. We have a kind of subconscious (or unconscious) connection to our innate [genderless] divinity which, in turn, elevates the dysphoria we have by forcing ourselves into a gender façade causing mental, emotional, and spiritual despair; therefore, making transition highly imperative for our well-being and ability to function in society.
Humanity as a whole is still very self-suppressed and naïve when it comes to our spiritual nature, so accepting variations of gender outside of the binary seems frightening. And what do people do when they are scared? They lash out, they ban and protest, and condemn what doesn't align with their understanding of reality. That's why we need to acquire a sense of duty, as the trans community, to break that spell and to always be willing and eager to help others understand (if/when they are willing and eager to listen). We have to plant the seeds and give the extra nudge so that people can start to realise the importance of it.
Anyway, that's all for now.
