Hello everybody, I'm Estel from Catalonia (Spain). English is not my native language, so please forgive my errors! I'm AMAB and identify as agender since June more or less, and since then I've been very happy although I'm not out to anybody yet so people still misgender me (people would misgender me anyway because in Catalan there's not neutral pronouns and almost all words are gendered; there's a masculine happy and a feminine happy). Estel is not my birth name, but it will probably be my name when I come out. It means "star" in Catalan and it's used as a female name, although it's grammatically a masculine noun. I like reading, writing (although I never finish my stories ;_;), playing the piano, singing and arranging/composing songs. But the thing I love more are languages, specially small and non-romanic ones (I will probably start Finnish lessons this September). My avatar is more or less what I look like, or at least what I would like to look like! I don't know what else I can put here, but if you have questions feel free to ask!

Welcome Estel! My name is Jacey, I am agender as well, nice to meet you It must be frustrating that Spanish language doesn't have a gender neutral pronoun. And your English is fine! What began your journey of questioning your gender and coming to the conclusion of being agender?

It must be frustrating that Spanish language doesn't have a gender neutral pronoun. Yes, it is, but I got used to it, That's probably why I don't care about my pronouns in English. Just one thing: my native language is Catalan, not Spanish (although I also speak Spanish in my daily life). What began your journey of questioning your gender and coming to the conclusion of being agender? The public television of Catalonia (tv3) made a documentary about transgender children (all of them binary). I knew that transgender people existed and that sometimes they were discriminated, and it sounded strange to me, I thought it was like a mental illness or something like that (Sorry, I didn't thought a lot about it anyway :-/ ). When I saw transgender children and teenagers telling their experiences I thought that it wasn't strange. Some weeks after that, I read a book, The art of being normal (literal translation of the Catalan version) by Lisa Williamson which is about two transgender children (MtF and FtM), one of them still not out to everybody. When I finished it I started questioning my gender, because I realised that I was saying I was a boy just because everybody said it. But when I thought of being a girl it felt indiferent, I thought that I wouldn't care a lot if one morning I woke up with breasts (except that I would be embarrassed with my family and friends...). So I thought that I wasn't transgender and that I was just influenced by the novel or the documentary. But still, I continued questioning and I did some research. I discovered that there was a thing named "non-binary" (thanks to nonbinary.org wiki!) and I started to get familiar with terms like gender identity, gender and sex disctintion... and finally I saw the agender gender identity. When I discovered that agender people were "real" I felt happy, satisfied... a lot of positive feelings Since then (two months) I have identified as agender with some questioning days. Maybe I'm genderfluid (or agenderfluid) but what I really know is that I'm happy thinking that I'm agender and that I'm depressed when I'm questioning my gender. So that's my story!

I don't understand what choice you are talking about. The lack of gender in Finnish is one of my "secret" reasons to start studying it

ah, the choice between so many other things than just male and female. or i think that was what i meant.
i speak lule sami. somewhat related to finnish, and much cooler. as well as much closer to dying, but that's a different matter. it's so good to speak a language where people are people by default, and children children, and the need to specify gender is only there if relevant or when trying to translate into an indo-european language.

Welcome Estel. I think you will end up finding this as a home or at least a haven. Taka... This kind of worries me. You are human maybe even more so than the rest of society because you acknowledge you different from the "cookie cutter genders" of society. No you are human and more and better than you may ever know.

I don't know why, but I LOVE small languages That's another reason for being interested in Finnish; it isn't as small as lule sami, but it's smaller than Catalan and I consider my language a small language (by "small" I mean the number of speakers). Latin had a neutral gender... why didn't Catalan and Spanish keep it. I hope people will stop using one gender and the persisting gender will be like a neutral one. But meanwhile... I have to choose if I want to be sad in a masculine or feminine way! :-/ Welcome Estel. I think you will end up finding this as a home or at least a haven. Thanks for the warm welcome! I think I'll wait a bit before going to heaven

aww... a haven is a rather nice place, and you'd be less dead than in heaven.
lule sami has less than a thousand speakers. should qualify as nearing extinction.
and jamie. it's easier to just not be human. i don't have too many good impressions of humans, and their insistence on following ridiculous social rules makes me wonder what humans have that high iq for. it's difficult to identify with the masses, and they are what represents humanity. actually, they're the ones who told me i'm not one of them, so why not just interpret it to the most extreme...
doesn't mean i feel less worthy or anything. as i wrote earlier, i'm also people.

Heaven is a place you go after death.
