Pentagon ends transgender ban The Pentagon said Thursday it was ending the ban on transgender people being able to serve openly in the U.S. military. The announcement -- which removes one of the last barriers to military service by any individual -- was made by Defense Secretary Ash Carter, who had been studying the issue for almost a year.

About fucking time. The only concern I have is in combat roles. I do not believe that we need to be in combat roles. I would not want to be in a combat role with our enemies hating LGBTs. You can hide the LGB but it is a lot harder to hide the T. Especially if you are pre op or even post op and run DNA and find out then you will be automatically executed because most of our enemies do not go by the Geneva Convention rules. Yeah you will get stripped down and humiliated even as a full on guy or woman. I also don't believe women should be in combat positions either.
If the whole world followed the Geneva Convention rules regarding POWs then yeah but they don't.
Seriously though. You don't have to fire a weapon and spend multiple hours in a foxhole on the perimeter to do your part. You don't have to wear the blue braid in order to do your part for your country. Behind every infantry soldier there are thousand standing behind them. Providing food, making sure they get paid and so on.
LOL. No pun intended but serving in the rear is just as important and maybe even more so than serving on the front lines. Without rear support the soldiers on the front would never stand a chance.
I was in the military and had a support role but an actual lower life expectancy than anyone in the infantry during war time. I would not do it as I am now. I would be killed before being taken prisoner because of our enemies beliefs. Especially if I had the same dress code as female counterparts. Longer hair but off the collar. Earrings but small studs and nothing over the top. Nail polish but in drab colors and shaved legs and underarms. In this scenario if ever taken prisoner by an enemy that hates LGBTs and they stripped me down which they would, I would probably be killed in a horrendous way just from their hate of LGBTs. Probably even raped by either human organs or other non organic stuff like spikes or whatever.
So no. I don't think we need to be on the front lines or any forward combat units just because there are people in the world that hate us and would go out of their way to make us suffer tremendously before they kill us.
This is just my opinion. Trans should be in the states or in extreme rear positions if deployed so they don't suffer more than they should if they become a POW. That is a very real possibility. Then no more HRT or worst. UGHH. I hate to even think about the possibilities.
But serving for sure. Shit how many of us have served and hid it and how many of us are serving now and hiding it? My guess would be quite a bit so why should the gays and lesbians have all the freedom to express themselves?

Well this is ironic given that today we just got the Personnel and Practices Bulletin for the base I work on.
I never really read it word for word but this is interesting:
Supervisors and Managers shall NOT:
Discriminate against an employee or applicant on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, handicapping condition, marital status or political affiliation.
Notice something missing in there? Gender and or personal preference. Maybe I am reading this wrong but this kind of worries me. I know the higher level guidelines would take precedent, but still ....
Thoughts ?

I know the higher level guidelines would take precedent, but still .... Thoughts ? -- Jenn Really. So if someone comes in a wheelchair with no legs then a recruiter could not tell them they would not be right for the infantry? I am all for someone serving their country. But in a capacity that puts them in as little danger as possible. Yes signing up for infantry will put you in the middle of the most dangerous situations. Deciding to be Special Forces will put you through rougher situations than infantry even. I am trans and being trans I do not want to be in those situations to where I could be tortured, mutilated while alive, raped by hypocritical assholes and so on. Kill me if you want and if I disgust you so much but don't torture me or rape me unless I agree to an erotic scenario with my BF. So having served in the military I know not every nations goes by the Geneva Conference and that women in combat roles are at risk and OMFG anyone LGBT may not make it out alive in a POW situation. A cis woman my be sold into slavery, raped multiple times but possibly kept alive for that reason and that isn't good and will take a lot of time to heal psychologically. But a trans woman may be raped and then killed or mutilated or tortured to death. In some places maybe instant death for trans because you have no control and if your captors strip you, which they will to humiliate you and you are a girl with a penis then you will most likely get passed around and then tortured and killed. As for gay and lesbian and also bi, you can hide that. But Trans, I believe should stay stateside or other transfriendly nations. The thing is with the military all jobs are just as important another. Without supply the infantry can't do thier jobs. Without admin, the special forces can't do thier job. Without JAG, there would be many incarcerated in foreign countries for a fine in the US. Without one MOS the others can't function. So OK I may need HRT but I can be in just as an effective unit stateside and just as important as in an infantry unit fighting overseas. In transfriendly counties I can be in a rear support unit as I can be on the frontlines. What most people don't understand is that it takes the whole She'bang (pun intended) to make our country secure and safe. There may be more glory connected to one MOS than another but it takes them all and equally to be a successful millitary force. But seriously though Jenn. I don't think you are reading it wrong. They still don't want us. It used to be no gays in the millitary and then came along "don't Ask, Don't Tell" and OMFG in Korea I had a CO that started the paperwork on two lesbians in bed in the barracks together when I knew personally that she was a lesbian herself. Oh yeah so the CO had different housing than the Enlisted personelle? How fucked up is that when she lived with her lover? Its just the same old song and dance and right now, there is no way I would shave my head and pose as a man just to join the military. 4 years almost killed me and I'll be damned if I would go through that hell again. Korea kept me sane for two years. Way off post it did anyway because white amreican girls were prime for Korean men.
