My name is Lex, or Tyrcel – I answer to both, and a whole lot more. I’m a twenty-something gender-variant individual and prefer a gender-neutral pronoun: ‘ze’ in place of he or she and ‘hir’ (pronounced ‘hear’) in place of his or her, or ‘they/them’ is fine too if that’s easier.
I’m a writer, an English Linguistics graduate, and an MI analyst for a software company. I write short stories and flash fiction which I occasionally post online, and I’m working on two novels which I might publish some day (hey, you can dream). My tagline about the place usually runs as follows:
"Lex in the hir and now: Writer of unclassifiable fantasy, sci-fi geek, techie, Eng Lang & Linguistics graduate. Agender. Excel nerd. Terminal procrastinator."
I write unclassifiable fantasy, by which I mean I have a long-running novel project that’s somewhere between political drama and dark fantasy. There are vampires. They do not bloody well sparkle. I am a sci-fi geek: Star Trek, Firefly, even Andromeda (no? I’ll wait for the tumbleweed to pass). I’d even argue there’s a sci-fi angle to take on The Avengers – check out the Stark tech. I’m a complete geek in that I routinely go to work wearing a SHIELD or Stark Industries t-shirt, and if I had other fandom shirts you can bet I’d wear ‘em. (LotR/Hobbit nutter, too, got to admit.) Techie: throw something gadgety my way and I’ll love you for it ... and speaking of work, I get to spend all day messing about with Excel, VBA and SQL and I'm enough of a complete geek that this really makes me happy...
I live in north-eastern England with two cats, a chihuahua, a housemate and technically my spouse, who really spends more time buried knee-deep in books being a law student. I also love steampunk, costuming (though it’s not something I’m good at, or into in a big way… yet), technology, photography, drawing, animals and approximately six million other things I might mention at some point or another.
I'm not great at introduction thingies, so I really welcome questions if you have any! I do better at Q&As than that silly rambly sort of thing I posted above (partially copied from an old blog "About Me" page, I gotta admit, though still all relevant and accurate). So yeah - say hi. It's nearly 2am on my time right now, so I might not reply right away, but I hope to stick around and get to know folks, so bear with me and I'll get back to you. :]
