Hello everyone, my name is Darcy and I have literally never knowingly talked to another non-binary person in my entire life, and for some reason it only just occurred to me to go looking for a forum, so here I am! (It took me over 25 years to discover the non-binary label that abruptly allowed me to make sense of my whole identity, so clearly I'm not always too quick on the uptake ). So yes, I'm here to talk a little bit and listen a lot and continue the learning process that I've started by reading a bunch of different non-binary blogs. I'm AFAB, trying to present as masculine as possible (which is difficult, since I'm only out to one person in real life) and hoping to soon start physically transitioning (top surgery and low-dose HRT). I've lived in small towns in conservative areas my whole life, so I'm really excited to be part of a community where there are people like me!

Hi Darcy, Welcome to Non-Binary Support Forum! You aren't alone here. Depending on the area you live in, we may be able to help you find appropriate sources to help you get the ball rolling on physical transition. Are you seeing a gender therapist? Kind regards, Jacey

Howdy Darcy!
Welcome welcome welcome. I don't mean to define your experience for you, but I do want to express doubt that you're 'slow on the uptake'. Gender identity is an incredibly complex thing, and society doesn't exactly equip us with the tools for introspection that are requried to make sense of ourselves. That you stumbled upon the truth of yourself at all indicates great emotional intelligence, in my mind. I'd also like to invite you to be gentle and kind to yourself. Realizing yourself is a difficult task, and like all difficult things, is best approached from a place of compassion and self-love. It's ok to be confused, and to make mistakes, it's ok to not know yourself, it's ok to simply be you, even when 'you' is confused and scared. That's true everywhere, though it's especially true here. It's also especially safe here. So, again, welcome welcome welcome.
It's entirely possible I'm reading far, far too much into your introduction, so please forgive me for any misplaced or unwarranted advice.
I'd love to know more about you... What hobbies do you have? What makes you smile? What makes you frown? What kind of weather do you enjoy? What kind of scenery do you like? Is there anything special I can do to help you feel happy and at ease?

Hi Darcy I am new too. Please call me Ace I am 24, and haven't identified as NB for long, so I guess it took us both a while. I wonder if this is a common occurrence among the less commonly known (a)genders? I would say welcome, but I don't really have that right yet. I will say hello, I hope we both find a comfortable place to be ourselves here

This is a real International site, so sometimes responses are a bit slow due to folks living in different time zones.

Hi Darcy, Welcome to Non-Binary Support Forum! You aren't alone here. Depending on the area you live in, we may be able to help you find appropriate sources to help you get the ball rolling on physical transition. Are you seeing a gender therapist? Kind regards, Jacey Hi Jacey, thank you for the kind welcome! I live in Orléans, France, and so far I haven't been able to find anything here (we've got a small LGBTQI community but honestly it's much more G than anything else). But fortunately I'm only an hour's train ride from Paris (well, in theory - right now the train line is down for long-term maintenance) and there's a fantastic group there called OUTrans that has a support group meeting every month. I went to my first one this past Friday and it was brilliant, even though I was too shy to say a word during the meeting. I did chat a little bit with some other members afterwards, but unfortunately I had to leave to catch (or miss, as it turns out) my train, so I couldn't stay for the informal meeting. I'm not seeing a gender therapist yet, much as I would like to be (and I have amazing French health insurance, so I could even afford it). It can VERY difficult to get accepted as a new patient in smaller towns in France, so I'll probably have to go to Paris for that, too. Thanks again for the kind words, it's an amazing feeling having people to talk to!

What makes you smile? What makes you frown? What kind of weather do you enjoy? What kind of scenery do you like? Is there anything special I can do to help you feel happy and at ease? Hi Ember, thank you for your message! At this point, I don't think any advice would be misplaced, so don't worry about that (I'm also a doctoral student in literature, so I've been trained to believe that it's not possible to read TOO much into something! ) I am trying to go easy on myself, but I keep falling into the trap of wishing I had started the coming-out and transitioning process earlier; it feels like wasted time even though I know that's not true. I needed this time to grow as a person and get to a place where I'm able to safely and comfortably live as the person I really am. Even if I had been able to label my identity earlier, I'm not sure that I would have been in the right place to pursue it, so maybe this is for the best. As far as hobbies etc., well, I work as an English teacher at an engineering college, I'm getting my PhD in literature (my subject deals with banned and challenged books for young adults in the US since the 1970s), I love reading, I write novels (but have yet to finish one), I live and have always lived on the plains but I retreat to the mountains whenever I can (the Rockies when I was a kid, now the French Alps), I hate the heat but I can't help but love summer because it means barbecues on my little terrace, and time off work to pursue my own projects, and cool evenings around a table with good friends and good beer. And that's pretty much me! You (and everyone here) have already done a tremendous amount to make me feel happy and comfortable, just with your kind words! Thank you again!

Yes, from what I understand it's pretty common to take a long time to understand (or even start understanding) gender, so it's good to know we're not alone! This seems like a wonderful and welcoming community. I'm glad we've both landed here By the way, I love your avatar and signature! Who's your favorite Doctor?

Hi everyone, I just wanted to say thank you to you all for your kind responses! I don't have a lot of experience with forums, so I've got a bit of learning to do - I took so long to reply simply because I didn't realize I had any replies on my thread! I'll work on getting better at this Thanks again for making me feel welcome!
