Uhh... hey. My name is Erin and I just recently discovered that I'm non-binary. I've been questioning my gender for a few weeks now and finally came to the conclusion of non-binary. Thinking back, there were definitely signs, but exploring my gender was never even remotely suggested to me, growing up in the southernmost region of Louisiana in America. I'm into girls and I have a wonderful girlfriend of two years, Morigan Marie. She's absolutely perfect and I love her very much. Calling myself non-binary, I'm unsure if I should still call myself a lesbian or if "gay" or "queer" would suffice. Currently, I'm a freshman art major in college. I aspire to be an illustrator or possibly go into character design of some sort. I draw--mostly my own characters. Yeah, I'm also an amateur fantasy novelist. Hobby-wise, my resume is pretty impressive. I also play piano, I'm a fair photographer, great at photo editing, I've sung in honor choirs my entire life, I act, I've directed before, um... other stuff... Oh, I've been to a gifted program for academics and music for a few years when I was younger. Buuuuut... my grades aren't the best. I have a couple of learning disabilities and an overall poor work ethic when it comes to something I'm not interested in which hasn't helped in the slightest. Back to what I'd like to do with my life, though, I want to get published, for sure, and illustrate books, maybe write a graphic novel. For now I work at Cracker Barrel and I hate it. I'm looking for a different job at a pet store. I'd like to be a dog trainer, and hopefully working at a pet store can put me in the right direction for getting certified for that. What else... Um, I'm extremely introverted and though I'm too shy to initiate a friendship in most cases, I'm a great friend. I'm a good listener and I give good advice and I'm really thoughtful and fun to talk to once you get to know me. Uh... I'm also a Buddhist. Sorry this is so long...

Welcome to Non-Binary & Trans Folk Forum, Erin! As for whether to call yourself "lesbian", "gay", "queer", it is entirely up to you which you feel most comfortable with. Gender identity is separate from sexual orientation, so there is nothing wrong with being a non-binary lesbian, a gay non-binary or queer non-binary. Just to give myself as an example, since I identify as genderless (or agender), I cannot imagine identifying myself as using terms such as "straight/heterosexual" or "gay/homosexual" because that implies that I identify as male, in order to be attracted to women (straight/hetero) or attracted to men (gay/homosexual), neither of which is true. So I like to think of my sexuality as queer, in that it doesn't fit society's norm or definition of straight or gay. I'm also asexual which complicates matters with partners in the bedroom, unfortunately. So a queer ace is here, at your service! Your introduction isn't long at all, I've seen longer Your font size is also quite huge, not that it's a bad thing, I have a big monitor but not sure how it fares on other folk's monitors if theirs are smaller. Feel free to comment on topics or create your own to get the ball moving. Some of us live in different timezones so don't fret, replies will come in due time. Kind regards, Jacey

Hello Erin. That's a great mix of interests you have there. What styles of illustration are you into?
Thanks for the info Jacey, I find sexuality combined with non-binary confusing at the best of times. That's helped clear up some Q's I might have had.

Thank you for the warm welcome, guys. Also I'm so sorry my font is so large--I liked how it looked. I'm sorry if I inconvenienced anyone...
Also, Jacey, I'm a demisexual! When you type it all out, it's a mouthful: Non-binary homoromantic demisexual. But my parent's are only just now coping with my being into girls, so I'm not sure they'd ever be willing to grasp any form of asexuality, let alone demisexuality. And it'd be one thing if I just flat out wanted to be a boy. But the fact that I'm not really comfortable with either side of the binary, it's just too much for them to handle. Very small-minded people...

Your avatar is just fine Erin, it really gives us a better idea of who you are without having to put your mugshot on the Internet for trolls. We do have a place for photos that outsiders can't see in general photos if you decide to put one up eventually.

Heeyyy, Erin!! Welcomes!!
I too have questioned my sexuality, try to figure out what I'd be now that I've come to terms with being nonbinary as well. Like I'm really attracted to guys, and have been since I was 13, so like o don't know do I say I'm gay androgynous?? Like who knows, but then part of me also thinks screw labels, I can like whoever I want. Like what others said sexuality labels puts you back in the gender binary, which I'm trying to escape from!!
And your interests are soo cool! I love films, what kind of stuff and genres have you directed??
