PLANS to stamp out discrimination, bullying and hate crime against transgender people in Wales have been unveiled.
The Welsh Government’s Transgender Action Plan has been put together following work with transgender people and organisations working with them and includes measures to deal with hate crime, sexual violence and other issues.
Action will also be taken to remove barriers stopping transgender people from taking part in sport and employers will be helped to support them in the workplace while healthcare workers will be given specific guidance.
The Welsh Government’s minister for communities and tackling poverty Lesley Griffiths said: “I am absolutely committed to ensuring barriers to trans equality are removed.
“I want this Action Plan to be a living document which can develop further as we continue to work with the trans community.”
But the plan has been branded “completely unambitious” by Liberal Democrat AM for South Wales West Peter Black.
“After the high of finally giving these issues the attention they deserve, trans people will quite legitimately be left wanting by this plan,” he said.
