I have a question about "Liking a post" I click on the little thumbs up sign not that I especially like the post, but more to assure the person who posted their comment that I did in fact read it. I think it would be better to say "Read Post" rather then liked it, so that the person who is taking the time to express themselves with a post will know that someone is actually reading it. Also I won't have to say I liked it even if I didn't particularly agree with it. Can we change that feature Jacey? C'mon, pretty please with sugar on it? Thanks sweetheart!

Unfornately, I cannot customize the "likes this" part of the Like system. The only thing I can do is enable or disable the Like system.
I have looked through the Proboards Plug-In Library for a solution, there are karma and an optional dislike system (too reminiscent of the old place, IMHO) or there is a post reply system in which you can comment on a person's post like so.
What do you think?
I can try to see if I can modify a plug-in to say "read this" instead of "dislike this" but would need to access my desktop, it probably won't be until tomorrow as new floorint is being put down today in computer room, dining and lounge room, hooray for house renos. No hooray for no Wi-Fi haha! *is using mobile*

Personally I would suggest leaving it alone, saving like for what is liked. Doing a read button puts folks on the spot a little.
You would see who is being read, who is not.
I think its something to leave as is.
I prefer knowing if a comment was on the mark as opposed to if it was read. Whether it helped rather than was seen.
Just thoughts.
Imo.
Trin.

My reasoning is that I want to let the OP realize that their comments are being read and that their thoughts and feelings are valid too, so that they don't quit posting and leave the site thinking that no one is reading their commentaries thus leaving them feeling ostracized. On the other hand even though I read someone's post I want to acknowledge that I did read it rather than say that I liked it even if it was tripe.

Actually I think this is a good idea that Shan came up with but.... We don't want to get into the thumbs down BS because I don't believe there is a thumbs down question. Oh hell anyone can flip me off if they don't like what I got to say, Shan and Trinity. Hell I will take it in stride. Just laugh it off and either apologize if I believe I was wrong or defend my position. But expect the finger back. But seriously though on facebook, other sights and youtube, if you don't like what the person says or just don't know about what that person says just either answer or don't say anything. We are all different and our experiences are all different but at the same time legitimate and important to ourselves. But reading and letting the other person know that their post has been read is fine. Thumbs down though is more like bullying to me. We had that before on another sight and I wonder how many have lost self esteem over that? So for example if I say Auntie Shan is an asshole, I expect Shan to either engage me in the post and challenge me or even confront me in a PM. Sorry Shan, I love you and would never call you that but just using you as an example because I know you can handle it and laugh it off. And vice versa. BTW Shan. I am so happy to have you back.

I chose Shan as an example because I know and consider them as a friend and know Shan can handle me using them as an example but I would never call Shan that. Hell I don't mind being called an asshole either. Kind of like a badge of courage even. No mistrust here. If I was in a Foxhole with Shan in a life or death situation I would trust Shan with my life. So no sobs please. I actually paid Shan a compliment from ex military to ex military.

Hi everyone
Wanting to join but boggled by privacy policy. How secure is this forum? Is it really confidential? I'm not used to these things (in my sixties) and need to be sure I can't be identified. Sorry to be so not up to speed!
Any advice appreciated, thanks

Rook, This forum is secure and confidential, we have a Members only section called Dear Universe that is not available to guests or visitors if you wish to avoid public viewing of your posts. As always with anonymity, refrain from using names/usernames commonly associated with your real life identity and you should be fine. Your email is only viewable to admin, aka me, members aren't able to view emails of other members. This is the way Proboards is set up, it seems. Hope this helps, if you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask Kind regards, Jacey
