What does transexual mean to you?
I consider myself one, even though no op and presenting in multiple genders. Because I physically changed my body, and I need it as female as I can get it.

To me transsexual just means someone who has taken steps to physically alter their body: hormones and/or surgery. Only hormones would count, and they can have any gender identity (not necessarily binary only). Although I do still associate the word more with binary-identified folks.

The term transsexual may not be suitable for most transgendered folks, it seems that most aren't the least bit sexual anyway, so it's really a misnomer for the majority since gender dysphoria generally has little to do with sex. I prefer transgendered which is more indicative of a personal journey across the gender divide or to some point in between. That journey is really more mental and spiritual than physical from my perspective, as it entails an ongoing argument one's own head about virtually everything under the sun that deals with presentation and social issues. Some seek physical changes beyond what the mind is already at work doing with the help of hormones. Others seek surgical alterations to feel more congruent, for many it's not important.

There is an interesting stereotype of the transsexual woman that I find incongruent with the reality of them.
The stereotype, and I see people just like this, is the heavy makeup and glitz and operation after operation to exaggerate female characteristics according to their needs.
And then there are all the transsexuals I meet now and they are just plain women.
Or they are just like me, hormonal and maybe full op, but no different than I am really.
Its like one crowd took possetion of the whole gender transition thing, whereas the reality of it is that there is a much larger reality to it all. Its why I see the term as anyone who changes their physical gender, and that it is not exclusive of nonbinary identities, it simply means the physical gender has been changed.
Its interesting to me too as a person of accute physical dysphoria and of social fluidity. I consider myself a transsexual, absolutely, but just as absolutely consider myself nonbinary.
The two terms to me are not all or nothing, not mutually exclusive.
But in the community, words being what they are, as soon as the label is applied, the characteristics of the other persons understanding or misunderstanding of what it means are suddenly superimposed over your real like a blanket.
Such is the negative power of stereotyping.
Interesting stuff.

I have mixed views on the word "transsexual".
On one hand, I identify with the label to the extent that my sex has to be changed in order to alleviate the body dysphoria (note: not gender dysphoria). I identify with male in how I think, react, sexuality, my sex and physical body-wise.
It is ingrained on such a deep level that having sex with a body that I currently have, that has secondary sexual characteristics of a female... the emotional and physical connection to that body part does not exist in my brain. There needs to be a (real, not silicone strap-on) penis and balls there to compete the emotional and physical connection between mind and body. In turn, this will complete the emotional and physical connection to partners whom I am intimate with, something that would have gotten disrupted due to the incorrect genitalia and misplaced erotic sensations I have.
Gender-wise, between the ears? I am a non-binary male.
Like my mind feels I am MAAB, even though I am FAAB. I have a MAAB brain inside a FAAB body, if that makes any sense at all.
On the other hand, I understand people not wanting to associate with transsexual, as it makes it sound like it is another sexual orientation, like heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual which creates awful misconceptions.
For me, I guess, it's that I don't have any gender dysphoria specifically, I just have body dysphoria because my physical body doesn't match my self-image of myself.
But I suppose in the end, its all semantics, isn't it?

I like this thread.
Hmm. "Gender dysphoria" vs physical body gender dysphoria? I may not truly understand the difference.

Hm, I originally thought body dysphoria is different from gender dysphoria but it seems to be one and the same wherever I look elsewhere online. Until I found this.
I have seen people refer to their dysphoria having different parts (e.g. social dysphoria, gender dysphoria, body dysphoria, bottom dysphoria, beard dysphoria, voice dysphoria, etc.)

LOL I have all of those bullet points and you got it from a nonbinary source too.
Interesting to localize it to one part of the body as opposed to the whole. For me each part contributes to the whole. Including this penis I really don't want to have, but seem to need in order to keep my wife.
I would have the op, possibly, probably, if I was not in wedlock. But I wont sabotage my marriage to get it, have to be careful, subconsciously I could very easily do it to set myself up and get what I want. Thats part of being married, watching for the subtle things.

It seems body dysphoria and my assigned gender at birth is what gives me most discomfort. I also have fears of being outed in mens restroom, that may tie into social stuff and other's perception of my gender. Yup, I got it from Non-binary source as it went into detail of the types of dysphoria one can experience, was pleasantly surprised by the find. Other places just explained what dysphoria was (discomfort and deep unhappiness with body assigned at birth), that wasn't enough information to fully satisfy me.
I have heard people just say dysphoria, as everything possible is collected under that umbrella. (Much like transgender and non-binary being umbrella terms) I mean, horrible feelings are horrible. In the end, what they're called doesn't change what the nature of it is.
I try to keep a busy mind, focusing on studies to help distract myself from thinking about phallo. It's a good two years away, maybe three, depending on whether the waiting lists on the NHS. I'm hoping with the publicity the system has been getting, they will push for a more efficient system for their citizens.
Just today, I thought, wouldn't it be cool if I got tattooing done on my new penis. It hasn't been widely documented of people's glans tattooing or penis tattooing post-phallo. Have only seen one photo where a transguy got veins and other detailing done, it was really effective, the tattooist did an excellent job! Oops, did I derail... haha.

You could have the word Mississippi tattooed on it, most of the time it would just say Miss unless you could get an erection which would then clarify things........Oh I'm so naughty!
That's Trin's influence, it's her fault!

Now you've got me thinking of one dude who got a intricate tattoo of a dragon on his penis, that the horizontal piercing through the glans were the dragon's eyes. At first, I was like "Why?" Then I thought about it just now and it clicked.
He wanted his dragon to enter a lady's cave in search for some treasure...
Remember, kids, thinking is bad. You can't unthink the things you think, nor unsee what your mind has seen.

Getting back to the term "Transsexual" being the harpie that I am, it seemed to me that way back when and well before the advent of trans-men and non-binaries, the term "Transsexual" was actually coined by the binary CIS crowd, because they saw and still do see everything through a sexual prism. Homosexual, bi-sexual, hetrosexual, metro-sexual, therefore transsexual. It was all about sexual orientation where trans-women were only envisioned by the CIS world as those strange faux women of the night, trolling for a pay date with men who enjoy the kink of finding the surprise package. There was and still sometimes is never any consideration that there might in fact be some kind of legitimate gender based abnormality mixed in their stubborn refusal to accept that possibility. Penis? It's a male! Vagina? It's a female! And that's final, they refuse to consider otherwise. So for all of us here we are more properly and should always be referred to as "Transgendered" because we obscure the gender lines and cross over. Over and out, I'll say no more, I said my piece!

(Difference Between Transgender & Transsexual by Autumn Asphodel - she is a transwoman too! )
(trans* vs. transsexual by uppercasechase1 - Chase, a feminine transman I look up to. )
Did a little digging on the subject matter. Don't mind me, just want to vomit my brain thoughts all over the wall here!
Transsexualism consists of transsexual men or women who believe their body is a birth defect that needs to be corrected. They believe being transsexual is a medical condition - not an identity. Transsexualism is something to be treated, cured so they can blend into society as cisgender men or women, as they believe should have been, had they been born with the correct body. As far as I know, transsexual men or women do not claim to be transmen, transwomen or anything genderqueer/non-binary, they would rather say they are men or women, full-stop.
There are also the kinds of people that cater to a lot of infighting in the community, ....e.g. A transsexual man comes across an FTM who identifies as genderfluid in a transmen inclusive group. Transsexual man asks why that person is in the group if it's for TransMEN, not genderfluid people. Transsexual man acts exactly like a cis-guy, being ignorant and saying things like, "Genderfluid is silly.", "Are you really gonna be gay about it.", "Eat a bag of dicks.", "People that don't identify as male but wanna transition, I wanna punch them***." And so on. Genderfluid FTM folks seem to make transsexual men lash out in fear that they'll be seen as genderfluid FTM, therefore, a transtrender, less valid, fake instead of a "real man", whatever that embodies for the transsexual man.
Another example, one transgender person takes their time with surgeries, whereas the transsexual man gets them all done in quick succession. Because the transgender person takes their time, the transsexual man believes they are "not trans/man enough" if they are having doubts or taking things slow. It is a bit of projection going on. The transsexual man has his experiences so when another person's experiences don't align with his, he deems them "not trans/man enough" because it doesn't follow his hyper-masculine cis-male narrative to a T. So anyone who identifies as feminine transmen, non-binary FTM, FTM but female-presenting, would be deemed invalid, not "true" trans in his eyes.
In saying that, while I disagree with the "true trans" mentality some transsexual folks hold over others, their view of their transsexualism as a medical condition, it's not wrong. On a certain level, I do agree with some aspects of it, especially the gender dysphoria and I do believe I should have been born a male but because I wasn't, it has given me insight into a world I would've probably been ignorant to had I been born cis-male. I thank my lucky stars everyday, I would rather suffer through being transgender and transitioning any day than live life as an ignorant cis-guy with the correct junk.
*** I don't condone violence at all, considering a day before this guy posted that comment, I had mentioned on one of the transmen threads that I'm agender and I'm transitioning to male (including hysto & phallo), and he makes that comment? People only express violence online to feel big and tough when they are really insecure. If we ever met, it'd be funny if I dropped him to the ground with one punch and be like, "Oh, I'm sorry. Getting hit by a genderless fairy must hurt your male pride real bad. At least, I have better hair than you do!" TL;DR: Transsexual is a term for folks who medically transition from male to female or female to male. Hormones, surgeries, the whole nine yards. It's all or nothin'. They identify as men or women, not transgender men or transgender women. Any sexual or fetish connotation with the word "transsexual" is thanks to the exposure of Jerry Springer and the shemale participants in the porn industry. People within the transgender community will know what you're talking about regarding being a transsexual, it's just the cis-folks that will get their wires crossed. Poor things.
Transgender is an umbrella term for everyone whose gender expression or gender identity does not match their assigned birth sex. This includes FTM, MTF, genderqueer, non-binary, intersex, drag queens/kings, bigender and yup, transsexuals as well whether they like it or not. Transgender also includes folks who do not medically transition, are no-op, or only gets low-dose hormones and say, top surgery, that's it.
Bottom line, it's okay to be a transsexual. It's okay to be binary. It's okay to be transgender. It's okay to be non-binary. Live and let live, I say!
