There are still an awful lot of places where I am despised as unnatural. Don't want to hijack the thread but I don't think it's so much despised as it is confused curiosity. After gym this morning I ran down to the local Dutch bakery and bought a loaf of freshly baked sourdough/garlic bread. Got my gym clothes on and a swath of bandana tied under my hair in back looking like a grey haired carrot top. Four big young fellows in hard hats were standing in line behind me, the closest one grinning at me. Initially I'm thinking, 'If you young boys had seen and been through my life you'd wipe that silly grin off your faces" So I pointed to a tray of fabulous apple fritters and told them, "You guys ought to try one of them with your coffee, they're pretty damned good!" The lead guy said "Thanks" and they all ordered an apple fritter. Most are like these guys, confused and somewhat curious, and when you initiate conversation the dynamics change. I'm definitely with Shan on this one. Everyone knows I have a big mouth here and IRL and am not too afraid to talk with anyone. The dynamics do have a tendancy to change when you initiate a conversation with someone even if it's something as small as a smile and a "good morning".
