Newcastle took part in National Hate Crime Awareness Week. It was an attempt to raise awareness of what hate crime is and how to respond to it, encourage reporting, and promote local support services and resources. And while the week of campaigning has ended, the problem won’t. Bethany White talks to one group of people who know that all too well. www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/how-being-who-you-want-10366526

I think there's an important message here: don't assume your local police will be unsympathetic. They might be, but don't assume that. They can't investigate a crime if you don't report it. So it might be worth a shot at least reporting it and seeing what happens.
