Presentations - mad, true, real, stealth.... what is yours?

A redundant thread, maybe since I am mtf I get into it more.

But, I noticed after the abuse I got hit with on the job that I started to present, and maybe have previously, based on anger.  In your face stuff.

Yesterday, with the anger slowly draining away, it just flat out got real,  that presentation.  Now I am excited at the nuances I can enjoy with genderqueer presentations.

Do you present socially to hide, to express, politically, subtly?  How do you present to this world, and why those choices my dear ones?

God I love it when I feel healthy emotionally.....its been a while

I present socially as me because presenting as someone who is not me would make me feel very uncomfortable. It's as simple as that.

I mostly agree with Edge. My problem now is money to obtain the look I'd really like to have.

I guess its a never ending process also, at least for me I'm always changing, so yes I try and present as the real me, much more these days than I used to, but I'm wary to say I'm there yet, and its probably going to be a never ending process...

I present... Hmm... I'm sure it depends on the person. Online, I can present as myself all the time. Of course, that still doesn't mean I present the same with every person. I'm more affectionate towards those I'm closer to. I can talk more openly about subjects with likeminded people. Those kinds of things. But I'm always "me."

Offline... I'm still "growing into" expressing my actual personality, I suppose. I still feel stifled by having a body that doesn't feel like me... and I'm even more reserved around people who don't know, like my extended family. Also, am I the only one who feels it's easier to be myself around strangers than people I've known all my life? I guess because they're a blank slate, and with people I know, I feel like I'm having to fight against a lifetime of misconceptions. Haha... Probably a lot of this is just in my head, but it still hinders me.

When I first began presenting as a girl online, I tried to be cutesy/bubbly all the time and never express things like anger or sarcasm. I was so afraid that expressing myself any other way would make someone think I wasn't feminine, and that was practically a fate worse than death. But, of course, women express all these emotions just as men do, and now I've reached a point where I feel more like if someone thinks less of me for not being super ultra girly at all times, then screw 'em.

As with everything else in my life I present myself as well as I can with authenticity.  I remember well the struggle to maintain two personas, three really.  Work in boy mode; friends in girl mode; home in something in between.  Eventually I ended up living a woman, now its whatever floats my boat today.  Because I live my life in a way that is honest.  What I wear and how I present is also pretty straight forward.  Today is a pretty typical look, think I'll go take a picture and add it to this post.  But the Julie you see is the Julie the world knows.

I think it's a Windows glitch. It seems to be a problem that started cropping up with the newer releases of Windows. I should probably stop being lazy and switch to Linux already.

Three previous computers with Windows went in the trash, four years ago I went with a MacBook Pro and have never had any problems since.

I think a lot of people wouldn't like my look. I'm the real girlie-girl type. Nothing over the top: no short skirts, no high heels, nothing flamboyant. But I do always wear skirts, generally well below the knee. Never go out without make-up, always have my nails done. Why? All I can say is because that's me. That's the way I feel inside, and after decades of having repressed myself, by God I'm going to express myself now. And I love it. It is so fabulous being me.

And I don't mind the compliments I get. Today I got another compliment on my nails. That happens quite frequently. And the woman who told me, "You're always so well turned out!" I don't mind that.

The one that really blew me away was the woman in the café who asked me if I was artistic. I told her no, but she must have seen by the look on my face how puzzled I was that she'd ask a question like that out of the blue. So she explained, "It's just that you're the glamorous type, so I thought you might be into art." Now who's going to object to that?

I do get lots of smiles from women. Not so many from men, but that's OK. Sometimes I wonder what people say about me when I'm not around to hear it. This is a small town and most people would know I'm trans. So exactly what they think of my look ("I suppose that's just the way they are!"), I don't know. But I've never had a negative comment made to my face.

I compromise. I have to be able to work in a white-collar environment so there are some restrictions on what I can do without causing myself difficulties. I can't dye my hair purple or get my nose pierced or have visible tattoos. I'm limited in how masculine I can present. So it goes.

I still feel like me, but a... "polite" version of me, for lack of better words.

I've just started working the "feminine" colors wearing clothes from the men's department a bit more. I seem more comfortable doing this than the opposite, wearing drab, muted clothing from the women's department. While what those colors are is culturally arbitrary, I live in American culture, and I look great in purple, lavender, and salmon. Not so sure that I look all that great in pink, though in small amounts, I really like it. I saw a pair of men's pastel pink shorts today and I just had to buy them. I will be wearing them this summer, not quite sure what I will wear with them, maybe a floral Hawaiian shirt that has some pink in it..
