You know really all good political ideologies start out with really good intentions. Then you add the human element and everyone of them will go to crap. Then even the best of intentions will be smothered by butt kissing and greed and arrogance. But the road to hell is paved with good intentions. But I'm incorruptible along with benevolent. As soon as I finish my doomsday machine, I will take over.

I knew a gorgeous young woman with all the most magnificent head turning attributes who was extremely shy and had low self esteem, I told her that if I had her body, looks and my mind that I'd rule the universe! You are pretty easy on the eyes yourself Boo-Boo, you might be a good candidate!

I never understood politics. It does seem that most politicians start out with some kind of morals but in their 30th year have become totally immoral. It should be a service much like the military and not a career that makes you rich. Let them get the same pay as the military and see how long they will stay in office. And they don't even have a chance of going to war or dangerous situations. So really who should get paid more? Military personnel or politicians. I think politicians should serve for free. Hell most are rich before ever voted in office. They can sacrifice.

In the early years of this country they did serve for free, it was an honor and a responsibility and obligation, now it's just an opportunity for the wolves to fleece the flock!

I think the original intention was for people to serve a short time in their representative government and then go back to their normal lives after office. And allowing congress to set their own pay and benefits is about the worst mistake ever made along with allowing them to pass laws and then exempting themselves. To change that now would be pretty impossible considering they are pretty much the ones that would have to approve it...

Excuse my cynicism, but the reason we need a better system is the same reason we can't have one: people are flipping crazy. They think we're irrational. If cis people put 1/10th as much thought into their lives as we put into ours, the world would be a lot more sane.

Yep. Being in politics should be a service and a sacrifice for their fellow citizens. I can see the taxpayers footing the bill for travel to and from the capital and their home state. I can see taxpayers paying rent on a modest apartment or have a whole apartment complex dedicated to members of the three branches. I can also see giving them a small enough salary to eat, I think 20,000 dollars a year would be more than enough pay for their sacrifice. I mean most are rich or extrememly well off before they are ever voted in. Take the incentive away for making it a 30-40 year career and see the people that would be willing to do it. Probably a whole lot better caliber than the ones we have now.
